CBS has announced its upcoming winter schedule, including the premiere of the highly anticipated Survivor 40, which will premiere on Wednesday, February 12 at 8:00 PM with a two-hour episode. The show will move to its regular Wednesday 8-9 PM time period from February 19.

It’s unclear at this time if the premiere will be a single two-hour episode with one elimination or if it will be two regular episodes aired back-to-back, similar to the Survivor: Game Changers premiere which aired in a two-hour slot back in early 2017. Given the milestone, fans will be hoping for a special two-hour extravaganza, much like the epic season 20 premiere for Heroes vs. Villains.

UPDATE 11/11/19: According to the listings at FutonCritic.com, the two-hour premiere will be two back-to-back episodes, the same as Game Changers.

As reported on Inside Survivor earlier this year, the season, titled Winners At War, will see the return of 20 former champions battling it out on the islands of Fiji to determine the ultimate Sole Survivor. They’ll also be competing for the biggest pot in Survivor history, as $2 million is to be awarded to the winner.

The cast includes the current Island of the Idols mentors “Boston” Rob Mariano and Sandra Diaz-Twine, as well as Survivor icons like Parvati Shallow, Tyson Apostol, Kim Spradlin, Yul Kwon, and Ethan Zohn.

Season 40 will also feature the controversial Edge of Extinction twist which was introduced earlier this year, as well as a new twist involving Survivor “currency,” with which players can purchase rewards and advantages.

Stay tuned to Inside Survivor over the coming months for more news and features regarding season 40.

    • Jeff just floated that out on twitter, asking if fans would be for it. Seems that the network didnt green light it though. Probably tough for CBS to do because then they’d need to find a half hour show to pair with it.

  1. I’m so disappointed. Now that we know there aren’t 90 minute episodes, and that the producers will be fitting immunity challenges, tribals, 2 twists and 20 WINNERS into 42 minute episodes, I was hoping for a 2 hour Heroes vs Villains type premiere to build story lines but we don’t even have that.
