Survivor: Game Changers

Power Rankings Round 1

Former Survivor player Michelle Schubert and Inside Survivor’s Martin Holmes make their power rankings for the season premiere of Survivor: Game Changers.

It’s that time once again for the Inside Survivor Power Rankings, a season-long battle of predictions and punchlines to determine the Inside Survivor Power Rankings champion.

Returning for the third season in a row is, of course, myself, Martin “Redmond” Holmes, reigning, defending, undisputed Power Rankings champion (shush, don’t mention that Kelley Wentworth was co-champion after Season 32). After defeating Randy Bailey and Julia Sokolowski in a hotly contested battle during Millennials vs. Gen X, this season another former Survivor player steps up to the plate hoping to take my crown and change the outcome of the game.

Taking on the Power Rankings challenge this season is Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X‘s merge boot, the “Mother of Dragons” herself, Michelle Schubert. It’s an edition we like to call – Power Rankings: Bay of Dragons.

The Rules

We use the Gordon Holmes format of Power Rankings. Each week the two power rankers create separate rankings based on least likely to most likely to be eliminated. The ranking of the player who is voted out of the next episode will determine the number of points the rankers will earn. For example, if Cirie is voted out in Episode 1, Michelle will receive 14 points, and Martin will receive 13 points. At the end of the season, the person with the most points will be named the Survivor: Game Changers Power Rankings Champion. Unlike the previous games, this season there will be no bonus points, we’re going old school!

1
Aubry
Smart girl. Lots of people thought she was going to win her first season, which I think showcased a great mixture of strategy and social game. She's definitely not going home early.
1
Ozzy
It's always hard to judge before the first episode, but Nuku looks like a much stronger tribe to me, and even if they lose, they aren't getting rid of jungle boy Ozzy first. Unless their voting criteria is who has the worst foot tattoo.
2
Brad
Even though he's big and strong, I don't think people will see him as a target for a long time. I'm predicting he'll fall into a strong alliance for most of the game. And, if I could, here's a fond memory https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eQk5ExgPvI
2
Tai
After being shut out in Kaoh Rong, I don't think anyone will see Tai as a threat. Plus he's a great provider at camp. He'll be swinging from coconut trees and naming chickens in no time.
3
Tai
Such a nice guy, right? And so useful around camp! How could you not like him? And surely there's no way you could vote him out early?!
3
Sierra
If you don't know who someone is, is it even possible to vote them out? I just don't foresee anyone leading the “we must get rid of Sierra” charge for a while.
4
Sarah
I think she's great at reading people but had to learn a hard lesson about trust during Season 28. I don't think she'll make that mistake again.
4
Andrea
Andrea seems a sure bet to make the merge. She's sociable, decent in challenges, not too threatening. Unless she royally screws up, I don't see why she'd be an initial target.
5
Michaela
The best shield in the game if you ask me. She's smart, strong, and loyal. The kind you keep in front of you till about final 5 or 6.
5
Caleb
Unless he dies in another sand pit, I think the Mana tribe will be keeping him around for his challenge strength alone. That and he's a loyal vote.
6
Troyzan
The right blend. He's strong and helpful but not TOO strong to be seen as a threat.
6
JT
In a sane world, JT should be an immediate target, but based on the pre-game press it seems most people are underestimating him as the good ole' country boy who drinks Coke for breakfast. His likability and challenge prowess should keep him safe (unless he's become Superman in a fat suit).
7
Caleb
If he can just not get medically evacuated this time around, I think he'll go deep. C'mon, Caleb, tough it out! ;)
7
Michaela
Coming into the game as an unknown is a dangerous position to be in, but I believe Michaela will have learned enough to keep quiet early on. And her skills in challenges should make her an asset to her tribe. We won't be saying ta ta to tatas just yet.
8
Sandra
There's no doubt in my mind she's a great player in this game... but NO ONE is gonna let her get within sniffing distance of that million for a THIRD time, RIGHT??!
8
Brad
A former NFL player/pre-merge boot who everyone thinks they can beat in the end. There's no reason to come after Brad early unless his personality is really that grating, which it might be if you talk to a member of the LAX check-in staff.
9
Jeff
I'm not sure about this one. I put him here simply because I wanted to. He's intriguing, but I worry that he's just too old school to keep up with the way the game is played now.
9
Sarah
Sarah played a decent pre-merge game in Cagayan before turning into President Sarah at the merge. If she can contain her ego, she should do okay. The only problem is the perception people have of her from pre-game Ponderosa.
10
Hali
I like her. I've got a feeling that she's got more dimensions than she's been given credit for.
10
Zeke
Like with Michaela, it's risky being the new kid on the block, and if Nuku loses the first challenge, Zeke is an easy target. He doesn't exactly blend into the background. Luckily for him, I don't see Nuku losing.
11
JT
Possibly the most likable player to ever play? He truly was a game changer, in my opinion. He seemed able to simply talk his way out of everything. (i.e. Vote against you... and have you trusting him again by daybreak.) Now, not sure if he can ever recover from getting played by Russell Hantz during his second season, BUT being his third (and likely his last) time playing, he may be coming in with a new arsenal.
11
Hali
Similar to Sierra, is anyone going to be leading the “must vote out Hali” campaign? Maybe if all the big threats join forces to boot a non-threat? But these are all-stars, and their egos won't allow that. I think we should prepare for Merica 2.0.
12
Debbie
WILD CARD. I have absolutely no idea. We know she's smart, I'll give her that. She's able to strategize.... but are people going to find her amusing or annoying??
12
Troyzan
It seems like he pre-gamed a whole bunch and while that can blow up in your face, I think it will serve Troy well at least for a little while. There are much bigger threats on his tribe that he can hide behind.
13
Malcolm
I don't see a reason to get rid of him super early. Challenge beast. I question his social game though.
13
Cirie
The gangsta with a smile could potentially be screwed on a tribe with two former enemies (Ozzy and JT). But Cirie knows how to charm herself out of a situation or two.
14
Cirie
What's not to like? I think she'll stay for a bit.
14
Debbie
Nuku looks too strong to lose, but if they do, Debbie is the most obvious first boot... because she's Debbie. Basically, I think Mana are the new Ta Keo, so after this ranking, the rest will all be Mana members.
15
Andrea
I hope she's learned not to hitch her wagon to a male player because at any time he can unhook and run further.
15
Malcolm
His cockiness (which is hilarious) could come back to bite him. But on a tribe with serious challenge liabilities, Malcolm's strength in that aspect of the game should keep him off the chopping block, for now.
16
Ozzy
TOTAL PLAYER and he's great at challenges. Too great?? I have a feeling that as soon as there's a swap, he's gone.
16
Aubry
The Kaoh Rong finale was the last thing these people saw, and a lot of them view Aubry as that season's rightful winner. And there are four Kaoh Rongers on this cast; there's no way Aubry isn't a huge target. However, Aubry is skillful in getting out of a jam.
17
Tony
Arguably the most deceptive player of all time. I don't think his strength would be incentive enough for me to keep him around.
17
Jeff
Given that he's never made the jury, Varner shouldn't be seen as a big threat, but his blustering game in Cambodia, coupled with being a challenge liability might make him an easy vote-off.
18
Zeke
He helped orchestrate my vote out in Season 33, so I decided to put him low on this list. Out of spite. I literally have no other reason to do so... because he's actually a cool guy.
18
Ciera
Ciera comes off very cocky in her pre-game press, and not in a humorous way like Malcolm. As the show's biggest proponent of “big moves” that thinking could come back to haunt her. She is also weak in challenges, which is more bad news for Ciera.
19
Sierra
Possibly a hard worker, but on a tribe that looks like hers, is that a necessity?
19
Sandra
I'll probably cry if Sandra is out first. Hell, I'll cry whenever Sandra is booted. Escaping that two-time winner threat is impossible. People want her out almost as a trophy. And much like with Varner and Ciera, she's also poor in challenges, so an early tribe loss is perfect opportunity to get her out.
20
Ciera
Ciera is an interesting player. My biggest concern = Her strategic flexibility. Is she going to fall into an alliance which plays the way she does??
20
Tony
I spy with my little eye something beginning with “first”. Tony is like Richard Hatch in All-Stars, people are just itching to vote him out first chance they get. He's that good that people won't even give him a chance. There's nothing I want more than Tony and Sandra to align and kick ass in this season, but I have a terrible sinking feeling.

  1. Zeke’s old photo is featured for some reason. 😛 By the way, will points be awarded in this round already?

  3. I have a question for Martin – why is Hali so much lower in your rankings if your thought process was similar to Sierra’s? Is it because of tribe strength?

  4. I always say I’m going to follow along and try to see if i can beat one of the power rankings people. But somehow, I forget to make my initial ranking. This season I’m doing it though!
I had cirie and sandra at the bottom, expecting them to be huge targets, so I’d only have 35 points right now.
Good job predicting ciera as first boot, it makes sense in retrospect but I definitely thought eyes would turn to the winners and other legends right away.
It’s a bummer that the true “game changers” are the ones getting targeted first (i think ciera qualifies), but I guess it makes sense that they would.
