Each week Inside Survivor contributor Rob Brodeur will be collecting various Survivor-related statistics and information based off the latest episode of Survivor 43.

Season

  • This is the 11th consecutive season to film in Fiji.
    • It’s the 12th season to film in Fiji (including Survivor: Fiji).
  • This is the first time that three consecutive seasons started with three tribes.
    • Seasons 41, 42, & 43 all started with three tribes.

Cast/Tribes

  • The average age of the cast is 30.89.
  • This is the first newbie season since Canadians were allowed to apply in which no Canadians are present on the cast.
    • Island of the Idols had Tom.
    • Winners at War was a returning player season.
    • Survivor 41 had Erika & Shan.
    • Survivor 42 had Maryanne, Omar, & Drea.
      • Coincidentally, both “new era” seasons had a Canadian woman win the season (Erika & Maryanne).
  • Cody and Geo are the first castaways from Hawaii.
  • Mike (52) is the oldest player this season, while Sami (19) is the youngest.
    • Both are on Baka.
      • Sami is the youngest Survivor player by birthdate (he was born in 2002).
  • Owen was in the casting finals for David vs. Goliath.
  • Cassidy was originally cast for 41 but was cut when filming was post-poned due to COVID.
  • Noelle is the third amputee to play Survivor after Chad from Vanuatu and Kelly B. from Nicaragua.
  • The tribe names this season are based on Fijian words for different trees.
  • This is the 5th three-starting tribe season with red, yellow, and blue tribes.
    • Philippines, Worlds Apart, Kaoh Rong, and Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers are the others.
  • All three of the starting tribes this season have four letters in their names.
    • This also happened in Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers, which coincidentally had red, yellow, and blue starting tribes.
  • Baka
    • Average age: 30.33.
    • Oldest member: Mike Gabler (51).
    • Youngest member: Sami Layadi (19).
    • Baka is the 24th yellow tribe.
    • The only other yellow tribe to start with the letter “”B” was Boran in Africa, which was 40 seasons prior.
  • Coco
    • Average age: 31.83.
    • Oldest member: Lindsay Carmine (42).
    • Youngest member: Ryan Medrano (24).
    • Coco is the 28th blue tribe.
      • Blue is the most used tribe color in Survivor.
      • Fiji, Millennials vs. Gen X, and Ghost Island are the only seasons filmed in Fiji without a blue tribe.
    • The last tribe to start with the letter “C” was Chan Loh in Kaoh Rong and it was also a blue tribe.
    • Both LGBTQ+ players this season are on the Coco tribe (Karla and Geo).
    • Coco is the 7th consecutive blue tribe, which is a record for most consecutive tribe colors.
      • Kalokalo- David vs. Goliath
      • Manu- Edge of Extinction
      • Lumuwaku- Island of the Idols
      • Sele- Winners at War
      • Luvu- Survivor 41
      • Ika- Survivor 42
      • Coco- Survivor 43
        • There’s been a blue starting tribe in the last four seasons.
  • Vesi
    • Average age: 30.5.
    • Oldest member: Nneka Ejere (43).
    • Youngest member: Dwight Moore (21).
    • Vesi is the 22nd red tribe.
    • It’s the 4th red tribe to start with the letter “V” after Villains, Vata, and Viakana.
      • Villains is the only red “V” tribe to not be on a season set in Fiji.

Reward Challenge: “Crate Wide Open”

  • Vesi won the first reward challenge.
    • Vesi is the first tribe in the “new era” to win the opening flint reward challenge and also win the immunity challenge in the premiere episode.
      • Ua won the reward and lost immunity in the premiere of 41.
      • Ika won the reward and lost immunity in the premiere of 42.
  • This is the first “new era” season where the losing tribes chose different tasks to earn their supplies.
    • Baka chose savvy.
    • Coco chose sweat.
      • 41: both tribes chose sweat.
      • 42: both tribes chose savvy.

Immunity Challenge: “Freedom of Choice”

  • Coco and Vesi won the immunity challenge.
    • Baka didn’t win any challenges this episode.
    • Vesi won both challenges this episode.
  • This is the second time in a red, blue, yellow starting tribe season where the yellow tribe lost the first immunity challenge.
    • Worlds Apart: Masaya lost the first immunity challenge while Escameca and Nagarote won.

Confessionals

  • Elie had the most confessionals this episode with 10.
  • Jeanine had the least confessionals this episode with 1.

The Summit

  • Every season since David vs. Goliath has a separate “island” that castaways are sent to.
    • Edge of Extinction & Winners at War had the Edge of Extinction.
    • Island of the Idols had the Island of the Idols.
    • Survivor 41, 42, & 43 have the summit island.
  • Karla, Mike, & Dwight went to the summit.
    • Karla didn’t risk her vote.
    • Mike got an immunity idol for the first two tribals he attends while Dwight lost his vote at the first tribal he attends.

Tribal Council

  • Morriah was voted out 5-1.
    • Both Morriah/Marya to play were voted out pre-merge and were the first players voted out of their tribe.
      • Jackson was the first player eliminated from Taku, but he was medevaced.
    • Both were also voted out at their first tribal council they attended.
  • Morriah is the 26th woman voted out first.
  • She’s also the 44th person voted out/eliminated on day 3.
    • Millennials vs. Gen X is the only season where nobody was voted out or eliminated on day 3. This is due to the cast being evacuated due to a cyclone.
  • This is the first season since Island of the Idols where only one player was eliminated in the premiere.
    • Winners at War: Natalie and Amber voted out.
    • 41: Abraham and Sara voted out.
    • 42: Jackson medevaced and Zach voted out.
  • This is only the second time a premiere episode was 2-hours long and only one person was eliminated.
    • The other was 23 seasons ago in Heroes vs Villains.
      • Both times a woman was voted out unanimously (Morriah & Sugar).
  • In Survivor 42 the last (and most recent) player eliminated had the last name Young (Jonathan), and in Survivor 43 the first player eliminated has the last name Young (Morriah).

Ratings

Episode Title

  • The episode title “LIVIN” was said by Cody. He said it’s his life motto and he also has it tattooed on his butt.

    • I was totally planning to finish the S42 stats but wasn’t able to keep up with it due to having my baby in the NICU and taking care of him once he came home. But I’m back and excited for the new season’s stats!

  1. I believe that Drea is an American citizen living in Canada. Uncertain if she’s also a Canadian citizen as well. Shan & Tom Laildlaw were Canadian citizens living in the US for years at the time they were cast on Survivor. Plus I thought Mike Gabler said he was 52 on 1st night episode 1?
