Big Brother All-Stars

Episode 9 Recap – Dethroning the Queen

Who won the Veto?

Janelle and Kaysar find themselves in a situation they’ve been in too many times before, the two of them against the entire cast. After being nominated by Tyler, the two Season 6 & 7 all-stars had to win the Power of Veto this week in order to delay their inevitable eviction from the Big Brother house.

After the nomination ceremony, Janelle immediately tries to sway some voters her way. She has a good connection with Bayleigh and Da’Vonne, but their two votes cannot save Janelle from her impending doom. She’s not on the right side of the numbers, she is not in the main alliance, and some of her castmates are even jealous of her current “reign” as Queen of Big Brother.

Dani, a similar alpha female, goes as far as saying she wants Janelle out so she can claim the throne as queen. We see Dani being given the “mastermind” edit relatively early. Similar to Tyler’s earlier edit this season, Dani is seen planting seeds of mistrust and mischief to other houseguests. It is clear that Dani is running the strategic side of the house while the boys win the competitions.

However, if it were up to me, I think Dani should be keeping Janelle around in order to lessen her target. Janelle is almost a perfect shield to hide behind for the other big targets in the game. But Dani really wants to show she can take out the best whenever she wants. That may be true, but she may be left as the only real threat and taken out herself because of her desire to one-up Janelle.

This week’s Veto competition involves rearranging cupcake pieces in their proper order, very similar to “Tower of Hanoi” puzzles. Janelle and Kaysar, along with Head of Household Tyler and selected players Cody, Bayleigh, and Memphis, compete. Janelle and Kaysar lose in the first round, to the happiness of the rest of the house. They see the writing on the wall as Cody ends up winning the Veto—their time in the house is now very limited.

There is some speculation on whether or not Memphis threw the Veto competition for Janelle to win, but he ended up beating her in the challenge anyway. A few ideas also float about if Tyler should backdoor someone like Da’Vonne or Memphis due to their “sketchy” gameplay. But these ideas turn to just low speculation as Cody decides not to use the Veto, leaving Janelle and Kaysar on the block this week.

It’s sad to me that we will most likely never see Janelle and Kaysar on Big Brother again. Both players are legends of the game, which is something no one can take away from them. So what’s my prediction? This house has wanted Janelle out from the second she walked in. Unless a last-minute switch happens, we will see Janelle walk out the door this Thursday. It’s unfortunate that she didn’t have more of a chance to shine, but unlike what Dani wants to accomplish, Janelle will always be the Queen of Big Brother.
