Survivor: Kaôh Rōng Power Rankings Round 2

Survivor: Kaôh Rōng is underway and so are the Inside Survivor Power Rankings. Each week, I (Martin “Redmond” Holmes) will test my mettle against Survivor veterans Jeff Varner and Kelley Wentworth.

In Week 1, Martin secured victory with 14 points after ranking first boot Darnell in 14th place. Jeff came in second with 6 points, and Kelley was trailing with 4 points. However, Round 1 was a practice round and so no points were added to the overall tally. But now it’s time to get down to business. From this round forward, points mean everything because there can be only one Inside Survivor Power Rankings champion.

The Rules

Each week the three power rankers will create separate rankings based on least likely to most likely to be eliminated. The ranking of the player who is voted out of the next episode will determine the number of points the three rankers will earn. For example, if Anna was voted out in Episode 2, Jeff and Kelley would receive one point each, and Martin would receive two points. At the end of the season, the person with the most points will be named the Survivor: Kaôh Rōng Power Rankings Champion.

Bonuses:

If the player ranked in 1st place finds an idol you gain 10 points.
If the player ranked in last place isn’t eliminated but receives a vote(s) against them you gain 5 points.
If the player ranked in 1st place wins individual immunity you gain 10 points (post-merge).

1. Winner vibes all over the place. Strong, strategic and on top of what’s happening. She knows what she’s doing. 1. Take it away, Beyoncé…. “Who run the world? Girls!” Oh yes, I smell a boss female alliance in the making, and in this scenario Anna is most certainly the Queen Bee. 1. Like a CBS intern, Jason might have trouble remembering the names of the cast-members, but he does remember the importance of numbers. He’s solidly aligned within the majority and there’s a clear target in the form of Alecia. It wouldn’t surprise me to see this Bounty Hunter calling the shots for a while.
JasonPic JuliaPic AnnaPic
2. Ruthless, yet friendly and smart when it comes to relationships. He seemed in control at first tribal, so I’ll keep him near the top. 2. Queen Bee’s backup dancer #1. 2. I’m not sure if the push-up bra strategy will ultimately lead to a win but right now Anna is positioned as the leader of the girls alliance and has connections with the guys too. She’s sitting in a sweet spot.

3. Positioned nicely, not threatening, likable and smart about her choices. Feel she’s set up well to go deep. 3. Queen Bee’s backup dancer #2. 3. This New Jersey bartender was making friends like it was happy hour at the local pub last week. The guys got a good vibe from her and the girls wanted to work with her. She also got credit for forming the first alliance. Drinks on Michele!

4. I like her. Wasn’t sure I would. We didn’t see a lot of her, but I get the vibe she’s not that “so smart I’ll turn you off” thing I initially thought. 4. There’s no shame in channeling your inner Oprah Winfrey. You get a handshake! And you get a handshake! And you get a handshake! 4. A lot of 18 year olds take a year out to go travelling… Julia took that one step further and decided to go on Survivor, and hey, she’s doing pretty damn well! She is firmly within the Beauty girls alliance and is contributing well to camp life.

5. His ageist comments early on lost some brownie points for me. But other than the misguided notion older people are bad teammates, he seems to be making the right moves. 5. What do you have against old people, Neal? I guarantee they buy your ice cream too. 5. He probably won’t be getting invited to any bingo nights any time soon but what does Neal care when he’s the leader of Survivor youth club? He seems the safest out of anyone on the Brains tribe even if Aubry does flip to the older pair.
CydneyPic ScotPic ScotPic
6. She fought for Darnell, but clearly was on the same page as Jason at the first tribal council. Since he’s a winner candidate for me, she’ll be up there. 6. Scot “My Way Or The Highway” Pollard. Although he and Jason seem to be in control of the Brawn tribe right now, if he isn’t flexible in the future, a tribe swap could be the end of his game. 6. He may look like the image on the lower end of the Evolution of Man chart but right now Scot is setting the tone on the Brawn tribe. His roll with us or get rolled over approach did well for him in Episode 1 and will likely continue for a while yet.

7. So glad she’s not the typical sorority chick. I really like her. She seems like she’s a follower following the right people. 7. Forget the million bucks, she should just cash in on an earplug commercial. I’m loving this badass chick. 7. She had a Cochran-esque redemption arc all within the span of 15 minutes last week. From overwhelmed social media nerd to challenge ass-kicker. It was like if Daria suddenly became amazing at sports. I think she’ll be valued a lot more now on the Brains tribe and could go with the youngsters or the oldies.
JenniferPic CalebPic JenniferPic
8. I thought she’d be a nightmare and it turns out she’s likeable. I knew the guys would appreciate her and the bug thing helped. Keeping her in the middle for now. 8. I’m still shocked not a single Beauty castaway discussed targeting him for his reality tv background! Even more shocking, and I can’t believe I’m admitting this, I was pleasantly surprised by BMC in the first episode. 8. She gets major credit for dealing with that irritating bug in her ear last week… but that’s enough about Alecia. Boom-tish! Seriously, if Jennifer can withstand a worm snacking on her brain then Survivor should be a cake walk. She’ll be toughing it out a lot longer.
JoePic CydneyPic CalebPic
9. Go Joe Go! I hope if Neal gets voted out, Joe has something to do with it. Keeping him in the safe middle for now. 9. Cydney does not like Alecia. Alecia is still on the island. We can all hope for a Cydney/Alecia throwdown next episode. Come on ladies, don’t let me down. 9. Let’s be honest. We were all surprised by how well he came across in the first episode, weren’t we? How quickly we forgot stalker Caleb… although it seems he might have a stalker of his own in the form of a small Vietnamese man this week. His tribe seem to like him, so Caleb should be fine for the short term.

10. I’m manic about her. She’s either early out or winner material. This week’s display of weakness, which appeared more panic than anything, has me dropping her. 10. Shhhh, keep your voice down, Peter – we don’t need to hear another confessional about how you dislike people who aren’t like you. And while you’re at it, pay attention to Neal, who’s clearly more informative than those YouTube videos you like to watch. 10. Everything is “beautiful” according to Nick. Shame his edit last week wasn’t. He’s probably safe though because the Beauty tribe seem pretty cohesive as a whole.

11. Love him and didn’t think I would. But I anticipate come swap time his Big Brother success will hurt him. They’re already aware of it. 11. There’s nothing I would love more than to see Joe dethrone the “young kids” and become King of #TeamOldPeople. 11. The younger Brains generation thought Joe was useless. But Joe built the shelter. Joe took care of Aubry the secret challenge weapon. Joe pretty much made Debbie fall in love with him. If I’m stranded on a deserted island, give me Joe over Neal and Peter any day.
TaiPic AubryPic CydneyPic
12. He’s a gamer and very charming. I initially had him higher, but given his lack of awareness during the idol hunt shows me a weakness that could do him in. 12. I’m starting to think somebody lied to Aubry and told her she was heading to summer camp. Time to wipe the mango off your face and get your head in the game, girlfriend! 12. It worries me that she talked so much about wanting Darnell to stay but then voted against him. That shows me she is not in charge and if Brawn continues to fall apart what’s to say she won’t follow Darnell out of the game. I hope not, but it’s possible.
PeterPic NickPic PeterPic
13. More of a follower than I thought he would be. Also think he could annoy people soon. I’m moving him down a bit. 13. Apparently Nick turned down a role in the latest Zoolander movie to go on Survivor, and he’s not going to let us forget it. “Have you ever wondered if there was more to life, other than being really, really, ridiculously good looking?” 13. It’s a good job that he’s an ER doctor and not a Geriatrician because like Neal, I don’t think Peter ingratiated himself with the older population. His elderly patients will be calling him a lot worse than Obama next time they see him. He seems relatively safe on the surface but is kind of playing second fiddle to Neal.
ScotPic LizPic LizPic
14. Jason’s bitch. That’s what I saw. A dude who needs to appear in control and Jason (who’s really leading) let him do that. He’ll grate on nerves soon, I think. 14. Liz criticized Aubry for cracking but I sense the Lizbot 3000 will malfunction very soon. 14. There is an ominous feeling surrounding Liz. The way she said that Joe was most likely to medevaced and that no one would be stupid enough to flip – it made it seem like she was being set up for a classic Survivor downfall. My read could be totally wrong but unlike Taylor Swift, I can’t shake it off.
NickPic TaiPic TaiPic
15. I’m moving him up a little bit and I’m not sure why. I still think he’ll be so annoying they’ll cut him loose soon. Just standing there he feels painfully arrogant. 15. In a Survivor first, production was seen shopping at a local Home Depot, where they purchased 5 small trees, a shovel, thread, and various idol looking knick knacks. Back at the Beauty beach, hidden deep in the soil, below tree roots…. I wonder if this was the fantasy that was playing in Tai’s head right before his disastrous idol search. Hopefully he can dig his way out of the mess he started. 15. He was doing so well until he decided to turn Kaoh Rong island into an archaeological site. He needs to just slow down and relax a little. We need more Tai Chi and less Tai Tree.
AleciaPic AleciaPic DebbiePic
16. Gone. Feels clueless and out of place. Why she’s considered brawn is lost on me. I don’t get it. She clearly is not like the others on her team. 16. She doesn’t help at camp. She isn’t a puzzle master. She has never used a Sharpie before. She’s the obvious target if the Brawn loses again. 16. I don’t want to be a Debbie Downerrr but lord knows you aren’t helping me out here Debbie. She spent the first episode reeling off her resume like an over-eager LinkedIn profile. My hope is that she clicks up with Aubry and Joe but she has made it so easy for her tribe to boot her first.
DebbiePic DebbiePic AleciaPic
17. Winning challenges is all that’ll keep her around. Early on someone always offers themselves up as the one to go home and it just feels like her. 17. Debbie forgot to add “Fire Queen” to her never ending list of occupations. Unfortunately for her, she wasn’t able to deliver. And she doesn’t…stop…talking. 17. If you can’t operate a pen then how I can expect you to operate an alliance or a strategy or even a spoon. It’s kind of unfortunate that Alecia ended up on the Brawn tribe because she sticks out like a woman on a list of Jeff Probst’s favourite players. Unless she takes a trick out of Tai’s book and uproots a tree from the ground with her bare hands to prove her toughness, I think Alecia’s journey is over.

  1. Overall, my own list is probably closest to Kelly’s, although I’m puzzled by Nick being ranked higher than Liz. I’m more Team Jeff on this point. Martin’s list is the strangest for me. Since the Beauty tribe is the least likely to go to tribal council, and since they also have the strongest/healthiest alliance at this point (of Anna, Julia and Michelle), why is Kyle ranked #1 in front of Anna, or even Julia or Michele? Why is Aubry 7th? (Yes, she had a good immunity challenge performance, but I’d she’d have to kill another challenge for me to rank her this high.) Why is Nick in front of seven players?

    • The way I did my list is to look at each person and determine if they went to tribal council how likely it would be for them to be eliminated. Jason in my mind, even if Brawn lost, is completely safe – also I think he is the type that could find idol (and we get 10 bonus points if our 1st place person finds an idol). The Beauty girls are next safest, although I could envision a scenario where one of them was eliminated IF Beauty did lose the challenge (say if one of them was solely resposible for the loss). That’s pretty much how I did the entire list with my bottom three: Tai, Debbie and Alecia being the most likely to be eliminated should their tribes lose. 🙂
