Episode 1 Stats

Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X is underway and Inside Survivor’s regular stat-man Rob Brodeur is back with all the interesting facts and figures. Each week Rob will be collecting various Survivor related statistics and information based off the latest episode.

Season

  • This is the second time that a season has been filmed in Fiji.
    • The last season to be filmed there was Survivor: Fiji, 19 seasons ago.
    • Survivor: Fiji filmed in Macuata, Vanua Levu.
    • Millennials vs. Gen X filmed in the Mamanuca Islands.
      • Season 34 also filmed in the Mamanuca Islands.
  • This is the first season since Survivor: Nicaragua to have 20 new players.
    • Nicaragua also used an Old vs. Young tribe split.
  • This is the first time in Survivor history that the castaways had to be evacuated because of dangerous weather conditions.

Vote-out

  • Rachel is the 20th female to be the first boot in a season.
    • So far nobody named Rachel has reached the merge.
    • Just like Rachel Foulger from Survivor: Blood vs. Water, she was voted out with five votes, all of them coming from the five men on her tribe.
  • The past three female first boots have all been Asian women.
    • Nadiya Anderson in Survivor: San Juan Del Sur.
    • So Kim in Survivor: Worlds Apart.
    • Rachel Ako in Millennials vs. Gen X.

Tribal Council

  • This is only the second time there was a “voting square” (Not to be confused with a “voting bloc”).
    • David voted for Rachel, Rachel voted for Sunday, Sunday voted for CeCe, and CeCe voted for David.
    • This only happened once before in Survivor: Caramoan.
  • This is also only the second time in Survivor history where four people got votes at the first tribal council.
    • The first, coincidently, was in Survivor: Fiji.
  • This is the first time that the first tribal council didn’t occur on Day 3.

Tribes

  • This season marks the third time that age has divided the tribes.
    • It is the second season where there is two tribes split old vs. young.
      • Nicaragua was the first time this happened.
    • Survivor: Panama had four tribes, split by age and gender.
  • Lucy is the only person not to get a confessional this episode.
    • This is the first time a player hasn’t received a confessional in the premiere since Corinne Kaplan and Hope Driskill in Caramoan.
    • The last time just one player didn’t receive a confessional in the premiere was Bruce Kanegai in Panama. Like Lucy, Bruce was a member of the older tribe.
  • The Millennials tribe, Vanua, is Fijian for “home” or “land.”
    • Vanua’s tribe insignia is an island with palm trees.
  • The Gen X tribe, Takali, is Fijian for “open sea.”
    • Takali’s tribe insignia is an ocean wave.

Challenge

  • Every time there has been an old vs. young season, an older tribe has always lost the first immunity challenge.
    • Just like this season, in Panama, a purple tribe lost to an orange tribe.
      • However, in Panama, both the purple and orange tribe were the “older” tribes.

Ratings

  • Episode 1 received 9.46 million viewers and 2.3/8 in the Adults 18-49 Rating/Share. This is up significantly from the Survivor: Kaoh Rong premiere which received 8.30 million viewers and a 1.9/7. However, it is down slightly from last fall’s season premiere of Survivor: Cambodia – Second Chance which received 9.70 million viewers and a 2.5/8 share.

  • The episode title “May the Best Generation Win” was said by Millennials tribe member Will Wahl.
