Top 3 Moments

Coconut Etiquette

Christine: First, there was Banana Etiquette, and now we have Coconut Etiquette. With Mary on the bottom again, she had nothing to lose socially. She decided to take out her frustrations on some coconuts with the machete and dared to enjoy some coconuts, too, to Eva’s chagrin. Eva’s response showcases the majority’s mindset towards the people they’re no longer open to working with. Why shouldn’t Mary partake in the coconuts? After all, she’s a player in the game too, and she’s not getting taken on all the rewards like the others are. I’m not mad that Eva responded to Mary like this because food drama is classic Survivor and I live for it, but her reaction exposes a lot about the majority’s mindset until now.

Eva Goes on a Journey

Gia: For those who think Eva could use another advance, this segment was for you! For the rest of us… well, it happened! The players were given an opportunity to go on an advantage journey, which would be decided by random draw if they couldn’t come to a consensus. Eva won the rock draw and had to win her vote back by stacking four rows of tiles without knocking them over. If she stacked eight, she’d win Knowledge is Power. She decided to stop at four to win her vote back rather than risk it for an unnecessary advantage.

David
CBS

David Takes a Stand

Gia: Good news, something unexpected happened at tribal council. Bad news: it happened after the vote. In a very expected fashion, Mary was voted out unanimously. This prompted David to stand up (in what I’m assuming was in solidarity) as she was leaving the tribal council set. While it was certainly the funniest thing to happen all evening, it was only made even more hilarious when you see Star behind David, trying her best not to crack up at the scene in front of her.

Advantage Watch

Safety Without Power

Gia: The final 7 has now come and gone, meaning Safety without Power has officially expired. Eva chose not to use it, as she felt comfortable enough with her alliance to know that removing herself from tribal could do more harm than good. She still has her immunity idol to use, which she has confidently stated she plans to play at the final 5. We will see if anything is amiss in the next episode that spooks her into playing it a round early.

Idols

Christine: We heard a bit more from Eva about her idol this week when she openly stated she would play it at the Final Six on either herself or Joe. I don’t know how the folks left in this game can hear her speak so openly and confidently about her concrete plans for her idol and not see this as an opportunity to blindside her with it in her pocket.

Top 3 Players

Joe

Christine: Despite losing immunity (“got fun betrale” is a hall of fame wrong answer) and being an obvious, obvious threat, Joe stayed alive yet another week. As much as I’m frustrated with the way he’s playing, you have to hand it to him: it’s working. And moving forward, Eva’s got all the trinkets, so if a shot is taken at this duo, she’s by far the most threatening of the two. It’s unclear to me what Joe’s gameplan would be if he lost Eva, which is definitely a weakness in his game. He’s playing a very rigid game, and if his plans get blown up, I’m not sure he’ll be able to recover. But again, what he’s doing right now is working, and Joe is still on top of this game despite being vulnerable here.

Kamilla
CBS

Kamilla

Christine: With a surprising and heartwarming challenge win, Kamilla had a solid week, winning immunity and reward. But as each episode passes, I grow more and more concerned with her ability to actually flip the game on Joe and Eva. Her duo with Kyle has been critical to her gameplay, but it’s Kyle who benefits most from Eva and Joe staying, not Kamilla. This episode was such a missed opportunity to use Mary to break up Joe and Eva, and I worry that Kamilla will come to regret not taking the shot here. Kamilla’s relationship with Kyle is clearly important to her, but if she can’t leverage that to get Kyle to flip on Joe and Eva, it just might be her downfall.

Shauhin

Gia: Shauhin seems to believe he can beat Joe and Eva in the final three, but does the jury know this is the case? Do his fellow competitors still in the game know this? I believed him when he declared that his social game was better than Joe and Eva, especially now that we have seen how both players behave when things don’t go their way (or even worse when things do go their way). However, at some point, Shauhin has to listen to the other players around him when deciding if going to the end with this pair is the best choice for him.

If everyone around you is saying that Joe is the biggest threat to win, why would you risk sharing the final tribal council spotlight with him? Of all of the players left, his edit is by far the most confusing to me. It certainly isn’t giving ‘winner,’ but he is also one of the most well-insulated players left. Shauhin has to do something to set himself apart from his alliance members and fast because, as of now, the only real outcome I can see for him is being a losing finalist.

Fallen Comrades

Mary

Christine: DIVA DOWN! Mary took us on a journey this season from scrappy underdog to silent majority member and back to scrappy underdog again. Mary getting voted out wasn’t just a loss for the viewers; it feels like a huge mistake for the players on the bottom. Mary made her mark on this season both on our television screens and through the memes she posted on Instagram, and she won’t be forgotten.

Mary
CBS

Gia: Mary had a roller coaster of experiences throughout her Survivor journey. Just when we thought she’d finally get some reprieve, her castmates decided to go the easy route and vote her out over a serious threat for the win. Still, Mary left as a fan favorite who wasn’t afraid to play from the bottom, shake things up, and challenge the social order of whatever tribe she found herself on. I’ll miss her energy on the season, and I hope this isn’t the last we’ve seen from her on our TV screens.
