Each week Inside Survivor contributor Rob Brodeur will be collecting various Survivor-related statistics and information based off the latest episode of Survivor 44.

Season

  • This season holds the record for the lowest number of votes cast, with 77.
  • This is the third season to have both a medical evacuation and a quit.
    • The others were Micronesia and David vs. Goliath.
      • All three seasons had orange and purple starting tribes.
      • They also all had a green tribe at different points in the season.
        • Micronesia: Green merged tribe.
        • David vs. Goliath: Green expansion tribe.
        • Survivor 44: Green starting tribe.
      • All three seasons had their quits due to medical reasons.
        • In Micronesia, Kathy quit due to her mental health (she stopped taking her meds before the season started).
        • In David vs. Goliath, Bi quit due to her knee injury.
        • In Survivor 44, Matthew quit due to his shoulder injury.
  • This was the first season with all new players since David vs. Goliath that didn’t have a player aged 50+ in the finale.
    • Island of the Idols: Janet was 59.
    • Survivor 41: Heather was 52.
    • Survivor 42: Mike was 57.
    • Survivor 43: Gabler was 51.
  • Everyone on the merged tribe was immune at some point during the merge/mergatory portion of the game.
    • The only player who made it past the pre-merge portion and not be immune was Josh who was voted out during the Mergatory tribal council.
  • Tika holds the record for the fewest number of players voted out from the tribe, with two.
    • Sarah and Helen are the only players who were voted out. Bruce was medically evacuated, Carson lost the fire-making challenge, and Carolyn and Yam Yam made it to the final tribal council.
      • The previous record was held by Taku in Survivor 42, Chan Loh & Gondol from Kaoh Rong, Aparri from Cagayan, Puka Puka from Cook Islands, La Mina from Panama, and Chapera from All-Stars with only three original tribe members being voted out.
        • Survivor 42: Marya, Omar, & Lindsay were voted out. Jackson was medically evacuated, Jonathan lost firemaking, and Maryanne won.
        • Kaoh Rong: Chan Loh – Liz, Peter, & Debbie were voted out. Neal & Joe were medically evacuated and Aubry made it to final tribal council. Gondol – Anna, Nick, & Julia were voted out. Caleb was medically evacuated, Michele & Tai made it to final tribal council.
        • Cagayan: Cliff, Sarah, & Trish were voted out. Lindsey quit, and Tony & Woo made it to the final 2.
        • Cook Islands: Cao Boi, Brad, & Jenny were voted out. Yul & Becky made it to the final 3.
        • Panama: Dan, Shane, & Terry were voted out. Bruce was medically evacuated.
        • All-Stars: Rob C, Alicia, & Tom were voted out. Sue quit, and Rob M and Amber made it to the final 2.
  • Season 43 is the only new era season where the runner-up and third place were of different genders (Cassidy & Owen).
    • Survivor 41: Deshawn & Xander.
    • Survivor 42: Mike & Romeo.
    • Survivor 44: Heidi & Carolyn.
  • Everyone in the finale ended up receiving some kind of winnings (in addition to their stipend).
    • Yam Yam won $1 Million for winning the season.
    • Heidi won $100,000 for coming in second place.
    • Carolyn received $100,000 from Sia.
    • Carson received $15,000 from Sia.
    • Lauren received $15,000 from Sia.

Immunity Challenge #1: “Gimme Three Steps”

  • Carson won his second immunity challenge in this episode
  • This season along with Marquesas, Philippines, and Survivor 42, had three people tied for most individual immunity wins.
    • Marquesas: Kathy, Tammy, & Vecepia all had two wins.
    • Philippines: Malcolm, Carter, & Mike all had two wins.
    • Survivor 42: Tori, Lindsay, & Jonathan all had two wins.
    • Survivor 44: Frannie, Lauren, & Carson all had two wins.
  • This challenge was previously used in Kaoh Rong, Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers, Island of the Idols, Survivor 41, and Survivor 42.
    • Carson and Lindsay are the only players to win this challenge and not be in the final 3.
    • Carson is the second man to win this challenge after Dean.

Immunity Challenge #2: “Simmotion”

  • Heidi won the final immunity challenge.
  • This challenge was previously used in Tocantins, South Pacific, Cambodia, Ghost Island, David vs. Goliath, Winners at War, and Survivor 42.
    • In the last three seasons, this challenge was won by someone who hadn’t previously won an individual immunity challenge in the season. (Heidi, Romeo, Natalie).
    • Romeo & Domenick are the only men to win this challenge but not win Survivor.
  • Both players named Heidi wore the immunity necklace during their season.
    • In The Amazon, Jenna won but gave her immunity to Heidi.
    • This season, Heidi won the final immunity challenge.
  • Since the inception of the forced final 4 firemaking challenge, Nick in David vs Goliath is the only player to win the final 4 immunity challenge (and keep immunity) that went on to win the game.
    • Chris won in Edge of Extinction but he gave up his immunity to partake in the firemaking challenge.
  • During this challenge Jeff mistakenly said that Heidi is the only player who hadn’t yet won individual immunity. Carolyn also hadn’t won individual immunity at that point.
    • Carolyn was, however, immune during the episode 6 (mergatory) & episode 7 (split tribe) tribal councils, and Heidi was also immune during the episode 7 tribal council.

Hidden Immunity Idol

  • This is the first season where no idols/advantages were found at the new beach.

Confessionals

  • Yam Yam had the most confessionals in this episode, with 13
  • Lauren had the lowest confessional count in this episode, with 4.
  • Final confessional count for this season:

    • He’s the first winner in the new era to have the most confessionals.
  • Yam Yam has the 4th highest confessional count for winners in Survivor (81 confessionals).
    • The 1st is Richard in Borneo with 91, 2nd is Tony in Cagayan with 90, and 3rd is Rob in Redemption Island.
    • The only players to have more confessionals than Richard are Russell in Samoa, who had 108 confessionals; Rob in The Amazon, who had 94 confessionals; and Colby in The Australian Outback, who had 96 confessionals.
  • Yam Yam holds the record for most confessionals in the new era.
  • Todd is the only LGBTQ winner who didn’t have the most confessionals in his winning season.

5th Place: Lauren

  • Lauren was voted out 3-1-1.
    • This is the first final 5 vote in the new era that wasn’t 4-1.
  • There was a voting triangle in this episode.
    • Heidi voted for Lauren, Lauren voted for Yam Yam, and Yam Yam voted for Heidi.
  • This is the first time since Panama that three players received votes (that weren’t negated by an idol) at the final 5 tribal council.
    • Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers had three people receive votes at the final 5, but Ben negated three votes against himself.
  • Lauren got her first votes in the finale episode.
  • The only two players this season not to receive any votes are the two people who were eliminated pre-merge (Bruce & Matthew).
  • With Lauren being voted out, this is the first time that a merged tribe had half its members be LGBTQ+.
  • Everyone that was voted out during the merge portion of the season was voted out back-to-back with a player from their original starting tribe.
    • Josh & Matt from Soka.
    • Brandon & Kane from Ratu.
    • Frannie & Danny from Soka.
    • Jaime & Lauren from Ratu.
      • Nobody from Tika was voted out during the merge portion of the game.
  • Lauren from Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers is the only player named Lauren to not make it to the finale.
    • Lauren O’Connell in Edge of Extinction, Lauren Beck in Island of the Idols, and Lauren Harpe from Survivor 44 all made it to the finale episode.
      • However, none of them made it to the final 3.
  • Survivor 43 is the only new era season where the 5th place player wasn’t 31 at the time of filming.
    • Karla was 28, while Ricard, Lindsay, and Lauren were 31.

4th Place/Firemaking: Carson

  • Carson was the only player in the finale who had 0 votes against him that counted, as the only 2 votes cast against him were nullified by Carolyn’s idol.
    • Yam Yam had 6 votes against him, Heidi had 8, Carolyn had 3, and Lauren had 3.
  • Both players eliminated in this episode were a part of the Ratu tribe this season.
    • Lauren started on Ratu.
    • Carson swapped to Ratu.
  • Carson lost the fire-making challenge against Heidi in the F4 fire-making twist.
    • He’s the 13th person to be eliminated from the game (outside of a quit, removal or medevac) without a vote taking place at all.
      • Wanda and Jonathan in Palau were the first and second (not chosen during the initial schoolyard pick for tribes), Bobby Jon in Palau was the third, Devon in Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers was the fourth, Angela was the fifth in Ghost Island, Kara was the sixth in David vs. Goliath, Rick was seventh in Edge of Extinction, Lauren Beck was the eighth in Island of the Idols Sarah Lacine was the ninth in Winners at War, Heather Aldret was the tenth in Survivor 41, Jonathan was the eleventh in Survivor 42, Jesse was the twelfth in Survivor 43.
        • Jesse, Jonathan, Heather, Lauren, Rick, Kara, Angela, Devon and Bobby Jon were eliminated due to a fire making challenge.
    • Ian Rosenberger in Palau, Brandon Hantz in Caramoan, and Jeff Varner in Game Changers were eliminated without a formal vote taking place but were still voted out.
  • Carson is the 16th player to lose a firemaking challenge at the final 4.
  • Carson is the 17th castaway to be eliminated without being voted out, removed, quitting, or being medically evacuated. The others are as follows:

Final Tribal Council

  • Every “new era” season had the same final vote count (7-1-0).
    • The only other season to end with a 7-1-0 vote was Blood vs. Water.
  • This is the first time that four consecutive seasons ended with the same FTC vote count.
  • This is the first season where there were two openly LGBTQ players at final tribal council.
  • Ratu is the only tribe without a representative in the final 3.
  • This is the first time that the top two players in a season are Puerto Rican.

3rd Place: Carolyn

  • Carolyn is the first openly LGBTQ woman to make it to final tribal council.
  • Carolyn is the 29th player to receive 0 votes to win at final tribal council. The others are as follows:

  • Carolyn is tied with Scout in Vanuatu for highest ranking openly LGBTQ woman.
    • However, Carolyn made it to the final tribal council, where Scout was voted out at the final 3 tribal council.
  • If Carolyn had won, she’d have been the first winner with a 7/10 voting record and a 70% voting record.

Runner-Up: Heidi

  • Heidi is the sixth player to give up individual immunity after Jenna in The Amazon, Burton in Pearl Islands, Erik in Micronesia, Brandon in South Pacific, and Chris in Edge of Extinction.
    • Heidi is the fourth player not to be eliminated after giving up immunity after Jenna, Burton, and Chris.
      • Burton and Heidi are the only two that didn’t win.
    • Heidi is the second person to do it after winning the final immunity challenge after Chris.
  • Heidi is the first woman in her 40s to receive votes at tribal council since Chrissy in Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers.
    • The only other women to receive votes at tribal council since then have been Natalie in Winners at War and Cassidy in Survivor 43.
  • Gabler is the only winner in the new era to win the firemaking challenge.
    • All three of the other firemaking challenge winners were runners-up with 1 vote (Deshawn, Mike, and Heidi).
  • Kim in One World is the only player to win after starting on an “S” starting tribe (Salani).
    • Cochran was on Savaii in South Pacific but was on Bikal when he won Caramoan.
  • Both Danny in Survivor 41 and Survivor 44 cast the only vote for the runner-up.
  • Danny is the 18th player to cast the sole vote for the runner-up in a season.

  • Yam Yam is the first winner from Puerto Rico.
    • He’s the second Puerto Rican winner after Sandra.
  • Yam Yam is the third Latin American winner after Sandra Diaz-Twine and Chris Underwood.
  • Survivor 43 is the only season in the new era that was won by someone from the contiguous US.
    • Survivor 41 and 42 were won by Erika and Maryanne, who are both from Canada, and Survivor 44 was won by Yam Yam, who is from Puerto Rico.
    • Survivor 43 was won by Gabler, who is from Idaho.
  • Yam Yam is the first LGBTQ winner since Todd in China.
    • He’s the third LGBTQ winner overall after Richard in Borneo.
    • Todd is the only LGBTQ winner who didn’t have the final vote revealed live on the island right after final tribal council.
  • Yam Yam is the first LGBTQ person of color to win Survivor.
  • Yam Yam has the lowest challenge win record of winners in the new era.
    • He is tied for the second lowest number of challenge wins with 4.
      • He’s tied with Vecepia & Denise.
      • Chris Underwood and Natalie White hold the record for lowest number of challenge wins with 3.
  • Yam Yam holds the record for most votes cast against a winner in the new era with 6.
    • Gabler had 0 votes against him and Erika & Maryanne had 2 votes against them.
  • Yam Yam has the lowest percentage of correct votes for a winner in the new era with 80%.
    • Erika had a 100% voting record, Maryanne had an 88% voting record, and Gabler had a 89% voting record.
  • Yam Yam is the 1st winner with an 8/10 voting record.
    • He’s the second winner with an 80% voting record after Chris from Edge of Extinction.
      • Chris, however, went to exactly half of the tribal councils that Yam Yam attended.
  • Everyone that voted for Yam Yam was eliminated from the game.
  • Since the forced final 4 firemaking has begun, Yam Yam is the fourth winner to be brought to the final 3 (didn’t win firemaking or individual immunity).

  • Yam Yam is the seventh winner who was on the same tribe as and the same gender as the first player eliminated from the season.
    • Thailand – John was the first player voted out from Chuay Ghan and Brian won.
    • Vanuatu – Brook was the first player voted out from Lopevi and Chris won.
    • Samoa – Marisa was the first player voted out from Foa Foa and Natalie won.
    • One World – Kourtney was the first player eliminated (medically evacuated) from Salani and Kim won.
    • Blood vs. Water – Rupert was the first player eliminated (swapped with Laura) from Galang and Tyson won.
    • David vs. Goliath – Pat was the first player eliminated (medically evacuated) from David/Vuku and Nick won.

  • Since Millennials vs. Gen X, orange and purple starting tribes have alternated winners.

Episode Title

  • The episode title “Absolute Banger Season” was said by Matt during his confessional before final tribal council.
    • This is the second season in a row where a jury member had the finale episode title. Last season it was Cody.

Survivor Birthday

  • This episode aired on Courtney Marit’s (Panama) birthday.
