Episode 2 Stats

Each week Inside Survivor contributor Rob Brodeur will be collecting various Survivor-related statistics and information based off the latest episode of Survivor 43.

Season

• This is the first time where a season began with two episodes that were more than 1-hour long.
  • Episode 1 was a 2-hour premiere, while episode 2 was 90 minutes.

Tribes

• The Vesi tribe is on the same beach as Vati in Survivor 42, Yase in Survivor 41, Sele in Winners at War, Lairo in Island of the Idols, Manu in Edge of Extinction, Goliath in David vs. Goliath, Naviti in Ghost Island, Soko in Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers, Mana in Game Changers, and Takali in Millennials vs. Gen X.
  • The first red starting tribe on this beach was Mana, which is also the most recent red starting tribe to be on this beach.

Immunity Challenge: “Serpent Turf”

• Versions of this challenge have been used before in Caramoan, Cagayan, Game Changers, Ghost Island, and Edge of Extinction.
  • Every time a yellow or purple tribe competed in this challenge they won.
    • The last tribe to win this challenge was Kama in Edge of Extinction.
  • Every time this challenge was used, the runner-up for the season was on the winning tribe.
    • Edge of Extinction is the only season where the season’s winner was not on the tribe that won.
• Coco won both immunity challenges so far
• Every tribe has lost at least one challenge so far this season.
  • Baka lost the reward challenge and immunity challenge in episode 1.
  • Coco lost the reward challenge in episode 1.
  • Vesi lost the immunity challenge in episode 2.

Confessionals

• Cody and Jesse had the most confessionals this episode with 12.
  • Cody currently has the most confessionals this season with 21.
    • He also has broken Evvie’s previous record of 19 confessionals within the first two episodes.
• Cassidy, James, and Lindsay had the least amount of confessionals this episode with 0.
  • Everyone on Baka and Vesi had at least 1 confessional this episode.
  • Karla is the only woman on Coco to have a confessional this episode, while James is the only man on Coco to not have a confessional.
• All players on Coco had either 0 or 1 confessional this episode.
  • Cassidy, James, & Lindsay had 0.
  • Geo, Karla, & Ryan had 1.
• All players on Baka had either 3 or 5 confessionals this episode.
  • Elie & Jeanine had 5.
  • Mike, Owen, & Sami had 3.
    • The confessional amount was split by gender, as the women had 5, and the men had 3.

Hidden Immunity Idols/Advantages

• Cody found the beware advantage, inside was an idol (with stipulations).
  • This is the first iteration of the current idol activation rule.
    • Cody had to get beads from each of his tribe members for his idol to be activated.

Tribal Council

• Justine was voted out 3-1-1.
  • The most recent player to be voted out 3-1-1 was Natalia Azoqa in David vs. Goliath.
• Noelle is the only woman on Vesi without any votes against her.
  • Justine and Nneka received votes in this episode.
• This is the 16th Survivor season where the first two players to be voted out are women.

• Both players who were voted out so far were the sole vote for another player.
  • Morriah was the only person to vote for Owen.
  • Justine was the only person to vote for Cody.
    • Both were women voting against men.
• Both players voted out so far were neither the oldest or youngest woman on their tribe.
• Both players who have been voted out so far were the fourth players alphabetically by first name on their tribe.
• This is the first season in the “new era” where no tribe lost two people within the first two episodes.
  • S41: Yase lost Abraham & Voce in the first two episodes.
  • S42: Taku lost Jackson & Marya in the first two episodes.
• In all three “new era” seasons so far, one tribe has never gone to tribal council within the first two episodes.
  • S41: Luvu didn’t attend tribal council in the first two episodes.
  • S42: Vati didn’t attend tribal council in the first two episodes.
  • S43: Coco didn’t attend tribal council in the first two episodes.

Ratings

• The second episode received 4.573 million viewers and 0.66 in the Adults 18-49 demo.

Episode Title

• The episode title “Lovable Curmudgeon” was said by Owen in a confessional when describing himself, saying that his friends at home call him that.
