Each week Inside Survivor contributor Rob Brodeur will be collecting various Survivor-related statistics and information based off the latest episode of Survivor 43.

Reward Challenge: “Roll with It”

  • This challenge was previously used in Samoa, Heroes vs. Villains, and David vs. Goliath.
    • This is the first time they did this challenge where the callers (players in the ball) were different genders (Cassidy and Owen were the callers this season).
      • In Samoa, both callers were women, in Heroes vs. Villains, both callers were men, and in David vs. Goliath, all three callers were women.
    • This was the first time this challenge was done as a post-merge challenge.
      • All three previous times it was used, it was during the pre-merge phase.
  • Both teams had one player from each starting tribe.
    • Blue: Karla from Coco, Cody from Vesi, Owen from Baka.
    • Red: Cassidy from Coco, Jesse from Vesi, Gabler from Baka.

Immunity Challenge: “Battle of Evermore”

  • Cassidy won her second individual immunity challenge this episode.
    • Cassidy, Karla, and Owen have each won two immunity challenges.
  • Jesse is the only player left who hasn’t yet won an immunity challenge.
  • The hanging bat puzzle in this challenge was previously used in Millennials vs. Gen X.

Advantage/Hidden Immunity Idol

  • Karla and Jesse’s idol plays are the first ones since Winners at War to negate votes.
    • The most recent idols that negated votes were by Ben Driebergen and Natalie Anderson in Winners at War at the tribal council where Denise went home.

Confessionals

  • Karla had the most confessionals this episode with 8.
  • Cassidy and Gabler had the least amount of confessionals with 4.
  • Jesse has the most confessionals of the remaining players with 50.
  • Cassidy has the least amount of confessionals of the remaining players with 30.

Tribal Council

  • Cody was voted out 4-0-0.
    • The original vote count was 4-1-1 but Owen and Karla’s votes were nullified.
  • There was a voting triangle this episode.
    • Owen voted for Cody.
    • Cody voted for Karla.
    • Karla voted for Owen.
  • Jesse is the highest ranking Vesi member.
    • He’s the fifth player to successfully vote out every single member of his starting tribe. The others are as follows:
      • John Cochran in South Pacific
      • Denise Stapley in Philippines
      • Cydney Gillon in Kaoh Rong
      • Ricard Foye in Survivor 41
  • Cody is the first player this season to win individual immunity and be voted out.
    • Gabler, Owen, Karla, and Cassidy are still in the game.
  • Jesse is the only remaining player with a perfect voting record.
    • The last player to make it to the finale with a perfect voting record was Tony in Cagayan.
      • David Wright in Millennials vs. Gen X technically had a perfect voting record going into the finale, but he voted for Zeke in the deadlocked vote where Jessica went home due to the rock draw.
  • Gabler and Jesse still don’t have any votes cast against them.
  • All three players to be voted out on day 23 in the “new era” are men.
    • Danny in Survivor 41, Omar in Survivor 42, and Cody in Survivor 43.
      • Also in Winners at War, a man (Adam) was voted out on Day 23.
  • Owen is the first Asian-American man to make it to the finale since Tai in Game Changers.
    • He’s also the first Asian-American player to win more than one individual immunity challenge in a season since Peih-Gee in China.
  • Gabler is the seventh Mike/Michael to make it to the finale of a season.
    • Michael “Mick” Trimming in Samoa
    • Mike Skupin in Philippines
    • Mike Holloway in Worlds Apart
    • Mike Zahalsky in Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers
    • Mike White in David vs. Goliath
    • Mike Turner in Survivor 42
      • Technically you could also include Mike Chiesel from Redemption Island as he was voted out but still in the running as the last Redemption Island duel took place in the finale episode.
  • Only six players were voted out on day 23 and four of them were men.
    • Julia Carter in Edge of Extinction and Michelle Schubert in Millennials vs. Gen X are the only women to be voted out on day 23.
  • Karla is the first lesbian contestant to make it to the finale since Scout in Vanuatu.
  • This is the second time that a three-tribe starting season had two members from each starting tribe in the final 6.
    • The first time this happened was in Kaoh Rong.
      • Coincidentally, both seasons had red, blue, and yellow starting tribes.
      • Unlike this season where each tribe was represented by players of only one gender, Kaoh Rong had one player of each gender representing their tribe in the final 6.

Ratings

Episode Title

  • The episode title “Telenovela” was said by Karla when talking about having to act like she wasn’t targeting Cassidy.
