Welcome to Season 42’s Next Time On Survivor feature on Inside Survivor! This is a tiny section where I break down the trailers and any other previews and give my personal predictions of the week’s upcoming episode.

We’ve reached the season finale of Survivor 42! The five players left are Mike, Jonathan, Maryanne, Lindsay, and Romeo. And there are two idols left in the game, held by Mike and Maryanne. First of all, after Lindsay’s mistake of not playing the idol for her ally Omar last tribal, I think both idols will be played at the final 5 as it’s the last time to use them. This way, the players are at the very least guaranteed the final 4 fire-making challenge.

In the preview trailers, we see Lindsay running around the jungle, saying, “If I don’t find it, I go home.” It’s definitely a hunt for an idol or some other advantage. After last tribal, it’s clear that she doesn’t have many allies who prioritise her survival left in the game. This last-ditch effort makes me think that she doesn’t win the upcoming immunity challenge and thus needs to rely on this idol to save herself.

Right after this scene in NTOS, Romeo shows off a fake idol in a confessional. I can think of two scenarios: first, Romeo keeps the fake idol for himself and lets people know he’ll be safe at tribal with it. Second, he could try to hide the fake idol for someone else to find. But to do it convincingly, he would need to pair it with the parchment message that comes with it. I predict that he works with Maryanne to plant the idol for Lindsay or Jonathan to find. This move will finally give Romeo some power during the game’s last leg. And for Maryanne, I think she’ll be more than willing to make such a move knowing that she’s actually safe with her real idol.

Next in the trailer, we get a short line from Maryanne stating, “Jonathan won’t be here tomorrow.” I’m not reading too much into this, as the line seems spliced up from different confessionals and conversations. However, I do think that the players target both Jonathan and Lindsay, hoping that they don’t win the challenges. Thus, for the final five vote, I believe it’ll be one of them out, and I’m leaning towards Lindsay because Jonathan and Mike seem to have a good relationship going on. Coupled with my guess that Lindsay does not win the immunity challenge, I think she’ll be the first player out in the finale.

Looking at how the final five players have been portrayed over the season, I feel like the winner of Survivor 42 is Maryanne. She’s definitely been presented as positive, fun, and strategic, someone viewers can root for as we trace her journey. Maryanne has also gotten lots of winner-like soundbites, like in the last episode where she declared in a confessional that she’s not a goat.

Working backward then, this is my prediction for the later part of the finale: Mike wins the final immunity challenge and brings Romeo to the final three. At this point, I think every player would like to sit with Romeo at the end, as he’s been out of the loop for multiple votes and hasn’t made headway from the bottom of the tribe. I think Maryanne and Jonathan will compete in the fire-making challenge, as I feel like there’s a competition between the two suggested to us since the pre-merge on Taku. Maryanne makes fire first and goes on to win, with Mike second and Romeo in third.

I’m excited about this finale episode, especially because there are two idols to play and a bunch of players who aren’t shy to make a move with them. For the last time this season, leave a comment below with your prediction for the finale!

  1. Hmmm, I think Lindsay wants to find advantage for next immunity challenge rather than HI. We had similar twist at final 5 last season

  2. I agree with a lot of what you said. Including sadly that I think Maryanne wins. I think for her to do that she needs to be the last taku left. So I think Lindsey goes in the first tribal. I think the only person left after that that can beat Johnathan in fire is Mike. So either Romeo or Maryanne wins final immunity I think cause I don’t think Johnathan or Mike will pull a Chris Underwood

    • If Mike wins final immunity, as you suggest, he’ll take Jonathan–for sure. Then Maryanne beats romeo for fire (which seems more likely) and wins because Mike is a 60 y/o Xander and the tribe doesn’t like Jonathan.

  3. I want Maryanne to win,the most underestimated contender on the show let them keep sleeping, she’s gonna win I love her♥️and I loved that move to get Omar out for just that alone she should win o and that million dollar smile of hers, and Jeff loves her too

  4. If it is Johnathan, Maryanne, Mike in the final I think the votes would go.

    Chanel votes Maryanne
    Rocksroy – Johnathan
    Tori – Johnathan
    Hai – Johnathan
    Drea – Maryanne
    Omar – Maryanne
    Lindsey – Johnathan
    Romeo – Maryanne
Then as a tie break mike votes Johnathan
