Each week on Inside Survivor we will be naming one castaway from the current season the title of Player of the Week. After reviewing the latest episode, we will determine which player impressed us the most with their social skills, strategic prowess, craftiness, and creativity. We will keep a tally throughout the season so that we can keep track of who is impressing the most.
Tally
Week 1: Kelley Wentworth (Inside Survivor pick) | Kelley Wentworth (Readers pick – 53.7%)
The Player of the Week for Survivor: Cambodia – Second Chance Episode 2 is…
Jeff Varner
Here is what the Inside Survivor contributors had to say about Jeff Varner after Episode 2:
Martin: Varner is living up to all the potential he showed way back in Season 2. Right now he is controlling the pace of the game. He is the only old-schooler truly playing a new school game while still maintaining solid, social relationships. He is teaching his fellow old school companions on the intricacies of Survivor while outplaying the new school gamers. His subtle manipulation of Abi-Maria in this episode was a perfect example of the skill Varner has for this game.
Jacob: Varner has quickly become the face of this season. The fact that a Season 2 pre-jury boot is outshining the majority of his competition in Season 31 is remarkable. I don’t know how long Varner will be able to maintain such a controlled game, but for now, it’s thrilling to watch.
Rob: Varner is proving to be a driving force with his second chance. Waiting 14 years for another shot has given him time to think about how he can improve on his previous placing. Week 1, he turned on his old school alliance to vote out Vytas; this was his way of telling his old schoolers to wake up. He found out this week that Shirin was targeting him, and he made it a point to get rid of her before she became too big of a threat for him. He’s put himself in a great position, and I feel like he’ll be in it for the long haul.
Shawn: Varner has overcome the stereotype of an old school player. He’s subtly leading the strategic charge while using the actions of other players to remain covert. He knows when to stay loyal, but also when to make big moves. Well deserved Player of the Week.
