The official results are in for the first of Survivor 50’s fan votes, and we now know the Live Reunion special is returning, with the event set to take place in Los Angeles in May.

Survivor host and executive producer Jeff Probst made the announcement during the 83rd Golden Globes on Sunday, January 11, on CBS. In the ad, the long-serving host revealed a ticket to the live finale as the prize for the previously announced Survivor 50 Challenge.

“You have a shot at something really cool, so cool, I’m going to tell you what it is right now,” Probst said after explaining the scavenger hunt, which sees 50 immunity idols hidden across all 50 states, each with a winner. “You will come to Los Angeles and be a part of the Live Finale.”

He continued, “That’s right, you voted, the finale is back! See you in Los Angeles!”

The return of the Live Finale and Reunion was one of several categories viewers could vote on as part of Survivor 50’s “In the Hands of the Fans” theme. Other categories included buff colours, whether to give players rice, and whether the final four fire-making challenge should stay or go.

Survivor hasn’t aired a Live Finale and Reunion since Season 39. The planned Live Finale for Survivor 40 was scrapped due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, the show has filmed its reunion special on location in Fiji immediately following the Final Tribal Council.

Fans and former castaways reacted positively to the news, including many players who will feature on the highly-anticipated Survivor 50.

“Finally we can talk about the fact that there will be a live finale!!!!!” wrote Coach Ben Wade on Instagram.

“Live Finale ?!?? OH WE ARE SO BACK” said Survivor 49’s Rizo “RizGod” Velovic.

Survivor 45 winner Dee Valladares added, “We see our future and it’s bright.”

“Nature is healing,” added Survivor legend and Traitors castmember Rob Cesternino.
