Survivor 50 is still a year away from airing, but the season itself will start filming in June, and Jeff Probst is tasking long-time viewers with some important decisions.
As announced on the official Survivor social media channels, host and executive producer Probst revealed that fans will be able to vote on what twists feature on Survivor 50. These votes will take place during the airing of Survivor 48, which premieres this Wednesday, February 26.
“Breaking news, Survivor fans, Season 50 is in your hands,” Probst said in a video. “That’s right, you heard me, we are turning the game over to you. Throughout the airing of Season 48, we’re going to be opening votes for you to determine key elements that will shape Season 50 for our returning players before they even get out to Fiji.”

“So, if you want to know when these votes will drop, you gotta be watching Season 48,” he continued. “The good news is, it’s a very good season.”
UPDATE: CBS has now shared a press release with more details. Some of the elements fans will be able to vote on include “Idols or No Idols,” “Final Four Fire Making: Keep It or Lose It,” and even “Live Finale and Reunion Show in L.A. – or Keep the Winner Reveal and Aftershow in the Jungles of Fiji.”
The results of the votes will be kept secret until the filming of Survivor 50, meaning viewers won’t find out until the season airs in 2026.
“From the very first season, Survivor has been evolving. Now, for our 50th season, it’s time for the next evolution,” said Probst. “‘Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans’ is unlike anything we’ve done before. For the first time ever, our loyal fans will take control – deciding key elements of the game, from twists to idols to advantages. I can’t wait to see what the fans choose for our returning players!”
The last time Survivor held a public vote to shape a season was Survivor: Cambodia – Second Chance in 2015, when viewers voted to decide the cast of 20 returning players from a pool of 32.
