The milestone season will film next year.

Jeff Probst has given some insight into the kind of players he’s looking for for Survivor’s milestone 50th season, with his focus set on the theme of “celebration.”

The Survivor host and executive producer spoke to Entertainment Weekly‘s Dalton Ross about his plans for Survivor 50 and the type of returnees he has in mind.

“We want players who are also excited to be on it,” Probst explained. “This is not Winners at War. It doesn’t mean we don’t want players who are going to play hard. Of course we do. But it means we’re also big-picture trying to celebrate 25 years, and that means joyful players who are in a good mood and want to play.”

More specifically, Probst said, “We’re not looking for disgruntled players looking to settle a score. We’re looking for players who want a second chance, who have something to prove to themselves.”

His mention of “second chance” suggests a focus on one-time players, which tallies with what Inside Survivor has heard in recent weeks in regard to the type of past players who have received calls.

The key focus for Probst is for Survivor 50 to be a celebration, noting, “So how do you do that in a way that’s fun, that includes the fans, that has the players that all the fans want to see, and will still give you the opportunity for another great season of Survivor?”

“So celebration is the first word, and that equals joy,” he added. “I’m looking for those moments that are going to be really fun and really funny.”

The Emmy-winning host also shared his thoughts on past players campaigning to return on social media or trying to seek out information regarding who has received calls.

“The players are excited, and we like that,” he acknowledged. “There’s no issue with a player being excited or trying to find out if there is information. That’s a good sign. It says you want it, so we welcome that.”

He continued, “What I would say back to any player that is curious or thinking about it is just remember that a big part of Survivor 50, or any great season of Survivor, is a little secrecy. So read into that whatever you want, but what I would have to say for players who want to be on 50 is to keep that in mind. We’re looking for excitement, and part of that excitement is that a season needs to have some secrecy around it.”

  1. So so so happy with this news!

Second Chance is a wonderful theme and perhaps it will bring back the likes of Chrissy, Domenic, Angelina, Christian, Nathalie Cole, Elaine, Shan, Omar, Cody, Carolyn etc.

And Sol if he doesn’t win 47!

  2. One participant each from seasons 35 to 49, excluding season 40. 14 participants plus the rest should comprise individuals who have participated once in previous seasons.

Revival of the RECURRING SURVIVOR CHALLENGE (Q and A)

  3. Robbed queen Chrissy should get a call.. such a dominant player who would have won if it hadn’t been for that twist… would love to see Cody and Jesse back too… and so many others… Angelina and Christian for entertainment… can’t wait.

  4. That brutal blindside on Cody by Jesse…. If anyone deserves a second chance! And I would love to see Carolyn again and Shan to see if she learned from her mistakes.

  5. I want to see back for Season 50 mainly Twila (S9) and Elaine (S39) and I forget his name “the NASA young guy” .
