Survivor 50 is in the books, but another season is right around the corner, and the show is ready to launch a brand new era.

Following Wednesday night’s (May 20) live finale and reunion, where Aubry Bracco was crowned the latest Sole Survivor and recipient of $2 million (plus a car!), Jeff Probst unveiled the first teaser for the upcoming Survivor 51. The promo revealed a new group of players, 21 to be exact, who will be battling it out on Fiji’s Mamanuca Islands.

“A new crop of players is about to birth a new kind of game,” Probst says in the trailer as we’re introduced to some of the personalities we’ll be seeing on our TV screens this fall.

“I haven’t remembered a game start like this in eons,” says pro-wrestler Brady Booker. “I mean, you gotta kick it back, I think, almost to the single digis!”

As the castaways are shown gathering supplies and jumping off a ship in a traditional marooning, Probst describes the season as having “no boundaries.” What does this mean exactly? Well, the Emmy-winning host offers some further explanation.

“For the first time ever, our entire history, every advantage, every idol, every twist we’ve ever done, 50 seasons of Survivor, is in play,” Probst announces, later coining this upcoming iteration of the show as “the Open Era.”

Does this mean every twist and advantage ever will be part of Survivor 51? Not quite. What it means is that any past element of the show COULD feasibly be on the table. As Probst explains, it’s a way to create a “shape-shifting game, changing without warning, creating permanent uncertainty.”

After the teaser aired, back onstage in Los Angeles, Probst further explained the concept of the Open Era, saying that anything “that has ever happened at any time on the show can happen in any season at any time in any order without any warning.”

The promo already gave a sneak peek at a couple of potential old-school elements that could be back for Survivor 51. Most notably, the show is returning to a two tribe format, at least to begin with. What that means for the 21st player remains unknown. A Survivor: Palau style early boot? A Survivor: Fiji early Exile situation? Time will tell!
