Welcome to Season 48’s Next Time On Survivor weekly feature on the Inside Survivor site! If you’re new around here, I’m Steph from sunny, tropical, humid Singapore. This is a tiny space where I give my best attempts at understanding preview trailers and make my predictions for the show’s next episodes.
In the NTOS trailer for episode 2, Kevin is seen warning Cedrek and Justin, “She’s dangerous”, before the scene cuts to a confessional of Sai saying, “I hold grudges.” I’m rather certain she’s referring to Mary and is harbouring some resentment as Mary voted for her last tribal council. To recap, Mary and Stephanie were attempting to gather numbers to vote Sai out. Unfortunately for them, they couldn’t win over Justin and Kevin, who ultimately voted with Cedrek and Sai to send Stephanie home.
From first episode impressions alone, I felt this was quite expected that Sai would hold a grudge. It’s very in line with the intensity she brought in the premiere episode, where she calculated and dissected the dynamics of the green Vula tribe and the process of solving the beware advantage cryptogram.
Back to Kevin’s comment to the other two men on Vula, I think he’s rightly referring to Sai being a threat. Especially with her idol, the three men have got to be weighing their options between getting Sai out versus Mary, should they go to tribal council next.
My guess is it’s a little too early for them to secure a solid alliance of four. There are bound to be alliances within the alliance, and it just takes two to pair up and topple the group. I predict Kevin is having second thoughts about the alliance and proposes that the three men consider voting Sai out. I don’t think they’ll do so immediately the next time they head to tribal council, but this may be the seed planted that takes root in the future.
Over on Lagi, the NTOS trailer shows Star telling Joe and Shauhin, “She’s plotting on my demise,” with a brief shot of Eva. I find it quite difficult to understand this sequence since we have not really seen this group interact much in the premiere episode. However, I think this statement might be related to the final confessional, “This is full-blown sabotage,” in the trailer, where we see shocked expressions from Thomas and Shauhin.
I guess that it has to do with the beware advantage on Lagi. Perhaps there will be some scuffling and deceit during the hunt for the advantage and the subsequent solving of the cryptogram. I think this leads to Joe forming alliances with everyone, thus his confessional in the promo trailer, “Everybody thinks I’m with them. Now what?” From what we know, he’s in the “California Girls” alliance with Shauhin and Thomas and has a really tight relationship with Eva. I don’t think he’ll need to choose one over the other soon, which puts him in a really good position on the Lagi tribe.
Unfortunately, the trailers for episode 2 don’t give us much insight into the Civa tribe. Thus, if I were to make an early prediction on who I think will be voted out next, I would guess either Sai (for being a strategic threat with an advantage) or Cedrek (an alternative but similarly dismantling the early alliance of four on Vula).
I’m excited to see what’s in store this season!
