The thirty-third edition of Survivor will hit our screens this fall, and with it comes 20 brand new castaways who will battle it out for the chance to be crowned Sole Survivor. During the live reunion for Survivor: Kaôh Rōng this past Wednesday, host Jeff Probst revealed the title and theme of the upcoming season – Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X.
The show will pit two generations against each other in the ultimate battle of endurance, strategy, and social manipulation. Below are the tribe names and divisions.
The Vanua tribe aka the Millennials – the word “vanua” means “land” or “home.” In Fijian culture, “vanua” represents the people and their customs and beliefs, as well as their relationship to the land. Vanua Levu is the second largest island in Fiji. The Millennials tribe is the “young tribe”, with the ages ranging from 18-31.
The Takali tribe aka Gen X – the word “takali” means “open sea.” It is also the name of a luxury villa in Fiji, the Villa Takali. The Gen X tribe is the “old tribe”, with the ages ranging from 33-51. W
Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X will air this September on CBS. Check out the full cast here.
Correction: Original post included the wrong definition of “takali.” Changed to correct meaning thanks to a commenter.

From physicality alone, Takali gets the CEO of Iron Chef/Body Builder, and four strong big guys in Kenneth, Chris, Bret, and Paul…the younger tribe seems to have some lightly-built but probably fast runners/swimmers physical girls/guys.
I’d give the edge to the elders in the first couple challenges, but if they lose, I see one of the potentially cocky bigger dudes heading out early.
That is how I guessed it
is it just me or does the season name “Millenials V.S. Gen X sound weird. they should”ve called it Survivor Generations or something. I also wished they organized it by jobs instead of by age.
I think you’ve got the wrong etymology for “Takali.” While “tahkli” is indeed a Hindi (and presumably Fiji-Hindi) word for a kind of spinning wheel, “takali” means “open sea” in the Fijian language. This makes a lot more sense, considering that the other tribe’s name means “land.”
Thank you! That does make more sense. Will edit accordingly.
*sigh* Another red/purple starting tribe.
& how long before they ruin this theme with a shuffle? I’m guessing Ep. 3. *SMH*
They’ve never done red and purple starting tribe before…
I think Will officially hold the record for youngest survivor ever now 🙂 I have high hopes for this season
What can i say Love the show very much LOVE IT.
How are you Gen X at the age of 33? I thought Gen X is from the ages over 35… weird :s
