Welcome to Season 51’s Next Time On Survivor weekly feature on the Inside Survivor site! If you’re new around here, I’m Steph from sunny, tropical, humid Singapore. This is a tiny space where I give my best attempts at understanding preview trailers and make my predictions for the show’s next episodes.
The NTOS trailer begins on the Dina tribe, where Eric threatens, “If those two think we’re gonna take that, in the words of Judas Priest, ‘You’ve got another thing comin’.” After what Lewis and Kilby pulled off at the last tribal council, it’s no doubt Dina’s returning fractured. Three players are unhappy they got blindsided by multiple extra votes and were basically forced to vote out their ally. In the sneak peek scene, Cristian points out the quiet as they get back to camp, probably showing they needed time to process what just happened.
On the other hand, Kilby and Lewis are obviously proud of themselves, savouring and celebrating their success. In the same sneak peek scene, Lewis talks about how the former Savu members did not have a backbone to stand their ground, caving to his threat of going to rocks. I predict this vote will have a lasting impact on the rest of their games. For starters, it’s highly unlikely the two will be accepted into any alliance involving the players who just got blindsided. If they make the merge, they might also be deemed chaotic, not trustworthy, and maybe even bullies for strong-arming the other three players.
The move might have worked out for that one tribal council, but I’m not sure how much it’ll do for them in the long run, or even the next time Dina goes to tribal council. Lewis and Kilby are now in the minority on a 5-person tribe, with no advantages to protect them.
Over on the Toka tribe, we again see the rather one-sided feud between Brady and Maggie. Building on last week’s episode, when Brady was annoyed by Maggie’s franticness and unpredictability, he now rants that she’s like a “baby penguin.” This time, I think he’ll be pissed off that Maggie decided to give away the extra vote he helped find to Kilby and Lewis without first discussing it with him.
I sense that Brady feels the need to control every part of the game, the advantages, and Maggie. Even though the scenes seem to paint Maggie in a negative light, I think Brady will be targeted if the Toka tribe goes to tribal council. He’s simply too large and loud a character, and other players may not feel they can reliably work with him. I think the Toka tribe will keep stringing him along as a number only when convenient, but he’ll be an easy target when the time comes.
Finally, on the little Savu tribe, only three players remain: Ori, Jelly, and Devin. Though the NTOS trailer shows a brief celebration, I don’t think this peace will last long. Sooner or later, they’ll head to tribal again, and they’ll be forced to break up the alliance that’s been working so well for them so far. Unfortunately for Ori, I think Devin and Jelly will stick together. Despite her conflicted feelings, Jelly showed where her loyalty lies by saving Devin and voting Alexis out in the last episode. It doesn’t make sense for her to flip on Devin at this juncture, right after committing to their alliance.
