Welcome to Season 47’s Next Time On Survivor weekly feature on the Inside Survivor site! If you’re new around here, I’m Steph from sunny, tropical, humid Singapore. This is a tiny space where I give my best attempts at understanding preview trailers and make my predictions for the show’s next episodes.
The NTOS trailer this week begins with a soundbite from Kyle, saying, “I don’t trust anybody. A family man is a dangerous person to have at the endgame.” In the last episode, Sue referred to Kyle as a family man, somewhere in the supercut of her hating and targeting him. Kyle’s confessional here may suggest a conclusion to this clash with Sue, which has been teased for many episodes. But at this point, I feel like such scenes and confessionals will just be dangled constantly until it happens.
Instead, I think the bigger point to note would be how Kyle’s reputation as a challenge threat only grows with each episode. As of Episode 10, he has won four individual immunities and been a part of many winning teams. It’s safe to say he’ll be in danger the moment he doesn’t win the immunity necklace again.
Next, the trailer shows Sam giving a confessional: “I think Rachel’s got something up her sleeve,” he says. This may be about the hidden immunity idol Rachel found and kept secret from others. Perhaps Rachel was acting too calm or overconfident in a plan she was proposing, which may have alerted Sam’s suspicion.
This reaction is probable as although the two have agreed to look out for each other, they both clearly have their agendas, very much prioritising their individual games, and have uncertain qualms about each other. In any case, whether Sam’s suspicion is right about Rachel, I think the edit creates the segue and hints that she’s about to lead the direction of the vote in the coming episode.
Another large part of the NTOS trailer highlights a new “underdogs” alliance, consisting of Rachel, Andy, Sue, Caroline, and Teeny. With five players, they form the majority of the nine remaining players. Notably, Sam and Genevieve are not included in this group, even though they seem more outcasted on the bottom than these five players.
I can’t help but think this underdog alliance isn’t very intentional or serious. Some players will work together, but they are not a core alliance that will stay strong until the final five. Caroline has previously expressed how she finds Rachel a sneaky threat; Rachel has been rather reluctant to work with Andy, only doing so as she doesn’t have many options. I think these dynamics will prevent this alliance from thriving.
Perhaps a new layer to add in the next episode: a potential Caroline and Sue fallout. They have been presented as a tight duo from the pre-merge in Tuku. However, Caroline just blindsided Sue by leaving her out of the Gabe vote. She even gave an ominous confessional pre-empting this possibility.
As such, I believe this underdog alliance may try working together to get out a common target—Genevieve, for instance, whom Rachel and Teeny want out. However, my prediction for the episode is that this will only be the initial plan people believe is happening. I think Rachel will be orchestrating something else, perhaps even a Sam vote or someone in the underdog alliance of five instead.
