Each week Inside Survivor contributor Rob Brodeur will be collecting various Survivor-related statistics and information based on the latest episode of Survivor 45.

Survivor Auction

  • This is the first season with the Survivor auction since Worlds Apart.
  • This is the first time that everybody started with different money amounts.
  • This is the first time since Thailand that there were only food items available at the auction, as there were no advantages, letters from home, etc.
  • Dee holds the record for most money at the start of an auction with $900.
    • She also holds the record for most money spent on a single item, spending $900 on a chocolate milkshake.
  • This is the first time that the auction was held in the 8th episode of a season.
    • It’s the earliest Survivor auction that occurred during the merge portion of the game, occurring on day 15
      • The earliest auction was in Thailand, which occurred on day 14 in episode 5, but it was during the tribal phase of the game.

Immunity Challenge: “Drop a Log”

  • This challenge was previously used in Samoa and Caramoan.
    • Both players who previously won this challenge were men with “J” names (Jaison & John aka Cochran) and won an advantage to the challenge in the auction.
  • All three times this challenge was used, the Survivor Auction was in the same episode, and the challenge was won by a man.
  • The two oldest players of the season were the final two players in the challenge.
  • The final three players in this challenge had the chocolate cake at the auction (Jake, Julie, and Bruce).
  • Two out of three times, this challenge was won by a returning player (Cochran & Bruce).
  • Bruce is the first player to win this challenge without having an advantage.
  • Every man from the Tika tribe in Survivor 44 has won individual immunity.
    • Carson won in episode 10 & 13 of Survivor 44.
    • Yam Yam won in episode 11 of Survivor 44.
    • Bruce won in episode 8 of Survivor 45.
      • This is the first time in the new era that every man from a starting tribe has won individual immunity.

Hidden Immunity Idol

  • Austin’s Advantage Amulet is now at its full power, which makes it a hidden immunity idol.
    • He now has two hidden immunity idols.
  • Austin is the 8th player to be in possession of two active hidden immunity idols at the same time. The others are as follows:
    • James Clement in China
    • Parvati Shallow in Heroes vs. Villains
    • Malcolm Freberg in Caramoan
    • Tony Vlachos in Cagayan
    • Tai Trang in Game Changers
    • Dan Rengering in David vs. Goliath
    • Kellee Kim in Island of the Idols

Tribal Council

  • Kellie was voted out 5-3.
    • Drea in Survivor 42 is the most recent person to be voted out 5-3.
      • Coincidentally, when both players were voted out, they had an advantage amulet which caused another player to end up with an immunity idol due to the amulet being at full power. (When Drea was voted out, Lindsay ended up with an idol, and when Kellie was voted out, Austin ended up with an idol).
  • 63% of players that were eliminated with a 5-3 vote were women.
    • Women: Kellie (Survivor 45), Drea (Survivor 42), Liana (Survivor 41), Kim (Winners at War), Chelsea T. (Ghost Island), Candice (Heroes vs. Villains & Cook Islands) Cecilia (Cook Islands), Brooke (Guatemala), and Mia (Vanuatu).
    • Men: Jimmy T (Nicaragua), Tyson & Randy (Heroes vs. Villains), John P (Vanuatu), Ken, and Jed (Thailand).
  • Kellie was an alternate for Survivor 44.
  • This was the fifth time someone named Kelly/Kellee/Kellie was blindsided at tribal council and became the first, second, or third member of the jury.
    • Kelly Goldsmith in Africa
    • Kelly Sharbaugh in Samoa
    • Kelly Wiglesworth in Cambodia
    • Kellee Kim in Island of the Idols
    • Kellie Nalbandian in Survivor 45
      • The only “Kellys” to make it to the jury phase and not be the second or third jury members were Kelly Shinn (Nicaragua),  Kelley Wentworth (Cambodia and Edge of Extinction), and Kelly Wiglesworth (Borneo).
  • The most recent three players voted out were from different starting tribes.
    • Sifu – Reba
    • Kaleb – Lulu
    • Kellie – Belo
  • Everyone voted out on Day 16 in the 40s seasons has been a woman.
    • Winners at War: Parvati & Sandra
    • Survivor 41: Tiffany
    • Survivor 42: Chanelle
    • Survivor 43: Jeanine
    • Survivor 45: Kellie
  • Survivor 44 is the only season in the 40s so far that hasn’t had a tribal council on day 16.
  • Both Bruce and Jake, the two original Belo men remaining, didn’t have a vote at this tribal council.
  • Austin, Katurah, and Kendra are the only players left without any votes against them.

Confessionals

  • Drew had the most confessionals this episode with 7.
  • Dee, Emily, and Austin had the least amount of confessionals with 2.
  • Emily has the most total confessionals with 40.
  • Julie has the lowest total confessional count with 17.

Ratings

Episode Title

  • The episode title, “Following a Dead Horse to Water,” was said by Bruce about Jake voting with Kaleb at the previous tribal council.
    • All eight episode titles have been said by a Belo or Lulu member. None of the Reba members have had an episode title yet.

Survivor Birthdays

  • This week’s episode aired on Stephanie Dill’s (Thailand) & Sarah Dawson’s (Philippines) birthday.
    • They also share some similarities.
      • They both have the initials S.D.
      • They both voted for a woman at the tribal council they were eliminated.
      • They were the first women voted out of their starting tribes.
      • They were both voted out with five votes against them in the fifth episode of their seasons and only received votes in the episode where they were eliminated.

    • Wiglesworth should have said “Cambodia” and Wentworth’s shouldn’t have included “Edge of Extinction” as I was just meant to list the seasons where they were 2nd or 3rd jury members.
