Each week Inside Survivor contributor Rob Brodeur will be collecting various Survivor-related statistics and information based off the latest episode of Survivor 44.

Immunity Challenge: “No Quarter”

  • Variations of this challenge have been used in Africa, Gabon, Survivor 41, and Survivor 42
    • Survivor 43 is the only “new era” season that didn’t use this challenge.
  • This challenge has only been used in seasons filmed in Africa and “new era” seasons.
    • Both times this challenge was used in Africa, the yellow tribe won.
    • In the “new era” seasons, a different colored team has won each time.
      • In Survivor 41 the blue team won, in Survivor 42 the orange team won, and in Survivor 44 the purple team won.
  • The tree puzzle at the end of the challenge was used in Winners at War.
    • A similar tree puzzle was used in One World and Worlds Apart, but it was much smaller.
  • This is the first “earn the merge” challenge that didn’t have a blue team competing.
  • This is the first time the “earn the merge” twist was done where nobody was sitting out.
    • Survivor 41: Erika and Naseer sat out
    • Survivor 42: Lindsay and Rocksroy sat out
    • Survivor 43: Noelle sat out

Mergatory

  • This is the first black merged tribe in the “new era.”
    • The most recent black merged tribe was in Winners at War.
  • This is the 16th black tribe in Survivor history.
    • It’s the 15th black merged tribe.
  • This season has the same tribe color scheme as Cagayan, Millennials vs. Gen X, and Ghost Island.
    • There were orange, green, and purple tribes pre-merge with a black merged tribe.
  • Tom from Island of the Idols is the only Canadian player to not make it to the merge.
    • Erika & Shan in Survivor 41
    • Omar & Maryanne in Survivor 42
    • Kane in Survivor 44
  • Both of the players who are from Puerto Rico (Heidi & Yam Yam) made it to the merge this season.
  • Matt is the 20th player to make it to the merge without casting a vote at a pre-merge tribal council. The others are as follows:
    • The Tandang tribe in Philippines (Abi-Maria, Lisa, Skupin, Artis, Pete, & RC)
    • Keith & Joe in Cambodia
    • Nick & Michele in Kaoh Rong
    • Cirie in Game Changers
    • Jessica in Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers
    • Chris in Ghost Island
    • Joe, Julia, Ron, Julie & Aurora in Edge of Extinction
    • Sydney in Survivor 41
      • Matt is the only player to attend a pre-merge tribal council and make it to the merge without casting a vote.
  • This is the first season since Ghost Island that didn’t have a blue tribe.

Confessionals

  • Carson had the most confessionals this episode with 6.
  • Lauren and Danny had 0 confessionals this episode.
    • Lauren hasn’t had a confessional since episode 3.
  • Of the remaining players, Yam Yam has the most confessionals with 35 and Heidi has the least amount of confessionals with 8.

Tribal Council

  • Josh was voted out 7-3-1.
  • He’s the fourth player to be voted out with this vote total. The others are as follows:
    • Michael Snow in Caramoan
    • Natalie Anderson in Winners at War
    • Chanelle Howell in Survivor 42
  • Josh is the 12th player to be voted out on day 13.
    • The most recent was Elie in Survivor 43.
  • Josh is the first man to be voted out at the “mergatory” tribal council.
    • Sydney was voted out in Survivor 41
    • Lydia was voted out in Survivor 42
    • Elie was voted out in Survivor 43
  • Josh is the first man to be voted out this season.
  • This episode was the first time this season where Lauren and Jaime cast a vote.
  • Matt is the first player to be unable to vote at multiple tribal councils.
    • He’s also the first player to be unable to vote and immune at the same tribal council.
  • Kane is the only player remaining who has voted but never voted someone out.
    • He voted for Brandon in episode 1 and his vote was nullified
    • He voted for Yam Yam this episode but Josh was voted out.
  • Carson is the only Tika player that has attended a tribal council but not received a vote.
  • None of the remaining Soka players have any votes cast against them.
    • This includes Jaime who swapped to Soka.
  • All three post-swap Tika members voted for a different person at tribal council.
    • Carolyn voted for Kane
    • Josh voted for Yam Yam
    • Yam Yam voted for Josh
      • Carolyn is the only post-swap Tika player that didn’t get a vote at this tribal council.
  • This is the first tribal council this season where no women received votes against them.
  • Carolyn is the only woman so far this season to receive votes and not be voted out.
  • Every starting tribe now has at least two players fewer than they started with.
    • Ratu: Maddy & Matthew
    • Soka: Claire & Josh
    • Tika: Bruce, Helen, & Sarah
  • Half of the LGBTQ players made it to the merge.
    • Claire, Matthew, & Josh were eliminated before the merge
    • Carolyn, Frannie, & Yam Yam made it to the merge.

Ratings

Episode Title

  • The episode title “Survivor With a Capital S” was said by Matt before heading into tribal council.

Survivor Birthdays

  • This week’s episode aired on the following Survivor players’ birthday (April 5th): Liliana Gomez (Fiji), Matt Quinlan (One World), Jessica Johnston (Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers), Rick Devens (Edge of Extinction)
    • Coincidentally all four of them were the first player voted out of a tribe.
      • Liliana was the first player voted out of Moto
      • Matt was the first player voted out of Malolo
      • Jessica was the first player voted out of Solewa (merged tribe)
      • Rick was the first player voted out of Lesu (expansion tribe)
