Each week Inside Survivor contributor Rob Brodeur will be collecting various Survivor-related statistics and information based off the latest episode of Survivor 44.

Immunity Challenge: “EOC”

  • This challenge was previously used in San Juan del Sur, Game Changers, and Survivor 43.
    • This is the challenge that was originally designed by a fan and where Missy Payne injured her ankle.
  • Both times a green tribe competed in this challenge they came in second but won due to there being three tribes competing.
  • The acronym for the challenge stands for “Elemental Obstacle Course.”
  • Every tribe that has competed in an immunity challenge with only three remaining players has lost the immunity challenge.
    • Ulong in Palau
    • Matsing in Philippines
    • Ua in Survivor 41
    • Tika in Survivor 44
      • Tika is the only tribe that didn’t go down to two players after losing due to their tribal council being canceled after Matthew’s exit.

The Summit

  • All three players who were sent to the summit (Bruce, Carolyn, & Brandon) are the players that opened the idol birdcage on their tribes.

Hidden Immunity Idol/Advantage

  • With Matthew’s exit and the next episode having all the tribes together on one beach, three hidden immunity idols have been removed from play.
    • Matthew left the game with his idol.
    • Jaime and Carson’s temporary idols expired once the tribes were together on one beach.
  • All of the remaining players have an active Shot in the Dark with the exception of Jaime.
    • The only two players to unsuccessfully play theirs have been eliminated (Claire & Matthew).
  • According to Ricard on Twitter, the Tika water well is located where Brad and Genie found Ua’s Beware Advantage on Survivor 41.

  • Matthew is the sixth player to pull himself from the game for medical reasons. The others are as follows:
    • Gary in Fiji
    • Kathy in Micronesia
    • Dana in Philippines
    • Terry in Cambodia
    • Bi in David vs. Goliath
      • Terry is the only one of the six to pull himself from the game due to a family member’s medical issues.
  • Matthew is the 22nd person to be eliminated from the game (medevaced or quit) due to medical reasons.
    • Eight of the 22 players were on orange starting tribes.
  • He is the second person to quit/pull himself from the game while in possession of a hidden immunity idol.
  • He’s also the first player to quit/pull himself from the game after winning immunity.
  • Matthew is the fifth castaway in the history of Survivor to attend a Tribal Council but never cast a vote, including a jury vote.
    • The first was Sydney in Survivor 41, the second and third were Zach and Marya in Survivor 42, and the fourth was Claire this season.
  • He is the second player to be eliminated off-screen.
    • The first was Dan in Island of the Idols after he was ejected from the game.
  • Matthew is the third player to be eliminated from the game after winning tribal immunity.
    • The first was Liliana in Fiji when Moto gave up immunity to keep their camp, and the second was Bill in One World when Manono gave up immunity.
  • Between day 3 and day 11, Survivor 43 and 44 had four women be voted out on days 3, 5, 7, and 9, and an LGBTQ player eliminated on day 11.
    • Survivor 43 – Day 3: Morriah, Day 5: Justine, Day 7: Nneka, Day 9: Lindsay, Day 11: Geo
    • Survivor 44 – Day 3: Maddy, Day 5: Helen, Day 7: Claire, Day 9: Sarah, Day 11: Matthew
  • Daniel from Survivor 42 is the only player in the “new era” to be eliminated on day 11 and not be LGBTQ.
    • Genie in 41, Geo in 42, and Matthew in 44
  • Ghost Island is the most recent season without an elimination on day 11.

  • Yam Yam had the most confessionals this episode with 13.
    • He also has the highest confessional count this season with 31
  • Lauren and Heidi had 0 confessionals this episode.
    • Heidi has the lowest confessional count of the remaining players with 7.
    • She’s the only player left without a confessional count in the double digits.

Tribal Council

  • This is the second time tribal council that has been canceled after an immunity challenge.
    • The first time it happened was episode 1 of David vs. Goliath when Pat was medically evacuated after the immunity challenge.
      • The David tribe lost this immunity challenge, so they would have lost a member regardless.
  • Tika is the first tribe to be spared from tribal council due to a medical evacuation/quit after losing an immunity challenge.
  • This is the first time in Survivor history where no men were voted out during the pre-merge portion of the season.
    • The only two men who were eliminated pre-merge this season were Bruce and Matthew who were medically evacuated/pulled from the game.
  • Helen is the only player to be eliminated this season and cast a valid vote.
    • Bruce & Matthew were medevaced/pulled from the game.
    • Maddy & Sarah had their votes negated by a hidden immunity idol.
    • Claire didn’t vote at the tribal council where she was voted out.
  • Carolyn is currently the only player in the game with a vote that counted against her.
    • Brandon and Josh have two previous votes, but they were negated by a hidden immunity idol.
  • This season parallels the pre-merge of One World, where there were only four pre-merge tribal councils that were bookended by players leaving due to medical reasons.
    • One World had Kourtney get medevaced first, then Nina, Matt, Bill, and Monica were voted out at tribal council, followed by Colton getting medically evacuated.
    • Survivor 44 had Bruce get medevaced first, then Maddy, Helen, Claire, and Sarah were voted out at tribal council, followed by Matthew pulling himself from the game.
  • This season is tied with One World for lowest number of players voted out during the pre-merge portion of the game.
  • Each tribe is leaving the pre-merge portion of the game with a different number of original tribe members.
    • Ratu: (4) Brandon, Jaime, Kane, & Lauren
    • Soka: (5) Danny, Frannie, Heidi, Josh, & Matt
    • Tika: (3) Carolyn, Carson, & Yam Yam
  • This season holds the record for the lowest number of votes cast during the pre-merge portion of the game.
    • 15 total votes were cast over four tribal councils.
    • 11/15 votes counted due to four of them being negated by a hidden immunity idol.
    • 1/11 of those counted votes are for a player still in the game (Helen’s vote for Carolyn).

Episode Title

  • The episode title “The Third Turd” was said by Carolyn when she said she felt left out with Yam Yam and Sarah’s relationship.

Survivor Birthdays

  • This week’s episode aired on Jon Misch (San Juan del Sur) and Alan Ball (Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers) birthday.

  1. >He is the first person to quit/pull himself from the game while in possession of a hidden immunity idol.
Colton Cumbie, Survivor 24: One World

    • Despite the fact that Jeff likes to say Colton quit twice, he as medically evacuated in One World. He quit in Blood vs. Water.

    • Kathy stopped her anti-depressants before going on the show. She’s mentioned it in podcasts and interviews. So she did quit for medical reasons.

  2. There’s an error in this article under “The Summit” subheading:
“All three players who were sent to the summit (Bruce, Carolyn, & Brandon) are the players that opened the idol birdcage on their tribes.”
Bruce didn’t open the Soka birdcage, Danny did.
