Welcome to Season 43’s Next Time On Survivor feature on the Inside Survivor site! It’s a tiny space on the internet where I look at episode preview trailers, attempt to decipher them, and give my thoughts on what I think may happen in the upcoming episode.

We’re approaching the very end of the season! With six players left, I anticipate gears shifting to end-game strategy and talks about building resumes to show the jury, expected of this era of Survivor.

The latest episode preview opens with Cody proposing to Karla, “Do you want to go to the final four with me?” which cuts immediately to a confessional from Karla saying, “It’s fascinating how quickly people will turn on their own alliance.” The way these sequences are being edited hints that Cody’s final four proposal to Karla may not include his closer allies, which we can assume means Jesse. It’s certainly possible, so Cody can differentiate himself from their otherwise similar games; they’ve been working and voting together since their time on Vesi.

Personally, I just don’t see Cody working with Karla over Jesse, as he was very much on board blindsiding her in the previous episode. I think he’ll be more likely to continue with Jesse to vote for someone more distant, like Cassidy or Karla. I’m more interested in Karla’s response, which may very well be spliced from a completely different context elsewhere in the episode. The scheming tone suggests that she’s devising a plan to make someone a scapegoat turning their alliances against them. Perhaps she’s trying to sow discord between Gabler and Owen so she can use either of them as a number for her plans.

The next part of the preview shows Jesse spilling to Cassidy, “Karla was going to write your name down,” followed by a confessional from the latter saying, “Karla, I’m coming for you.” This Cassidy versus Karla allies-turned-competition arc has been building up for a couple of episodes now. We’ve heard Cassidy reveal she sees Karla as a threat, and Karla also considered voting Cassidy out just last week, regretting telling her about her idol. My prediction is Cassidy will be able to pull the numbers to vote out Karla. Though both women have played similar games, I think Cassidy will be able to paint Karla as a bigger threat than her to other players because of the idol.

In the last portion of the preview trailer, Cody tells Gabler, “Owen won’t see it coming,” and in a confessional, Cody exclaims, “‘Genius’ is the word for this plan!” This, coupled with his assessment in another promotional trailer that “Today’s blindside will be the biggest of the season,” makes me think that it’s a far more elaborate plan than blindsiding Owen, who has been consistently powerless. Perhaps Owen is merely the decoy name to appease Gabler when the actual plan is to vote out him or one of his allies.

Overall, I feel like it’s going to be a very layered upcoming vote. My prediction is that we’ll initially see an even split with two guys supporting Karla and another two supporting Cassidy. Ultimately, I think that Karla is coaxed into comfort enough that she doesn’t play her idol and gets blindsided in this episode.

  1. I hope you are right about the Karla thing, but I don’t get “voted out with an idol” vibes from her edit. Her whole edit has been about not playing scared and how that is a good thing. Being voted out with an idol would negate that. I also don’t think Cassidy is being voted out. So I think the boot is Gabler who has felt very comfortable since merge
