CBS has unveiled its 2023 fall schedule, confirming that Survivor will expand to 90-minute episodes for the upcoming 45th season.

Inside Survivor first reported the news last month, noting that the long-running reality series would be airing an entire season’s worth of 90-minute episodes rather than the usual 60-minute (with commercials) installments.

In addition, The Amazing Race will also expand to 90-minute episodes and air immediately following new episodes of Survivor on Wednesdays this fall. Survivor will air from 8:00-9:30 pm ET, while The Amazing Race will follow from 9:30-11:00 pm ET.

“So excited for more Survivor!” the show’s host and executive producer Jeff Probst tweeted on Wednesday following CBS’ announcement.

It’s no secret that Probst has been a long-time advocate for longer episodes. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly last year, the Emmy Award winner said, “I actually think 90 minutes is a great length for a Survivor episode. It means basically 63 minutes of total running time, and that’s similar to what you would find on a streaming service.”

The show has experimented with longer episodes in recent years, with Survivor 43‘s second episode receiving a 90-minute runtime last September. There have also been numerous 90-minute season premieres over the years, plus airing back-to-back episodes.

“Fortunately, we have an incredibly tight relationship with CBS, and that allows us to talk candidly about stuff like this and do what is best for the show,” Probst said of the Survivor schedule.

Survivor 45 is currently filming in Fiji’s Mamanuca Islands and is expected to wrap later this week.
