Top 3 Moments
Teeny and Genevieve Break Up
Christine: Last week, it looked like Genevieve might make it out of the last vote on scathed, but at the start of this episode, we learned that everyone knew she was the mastermind behind the Sol vote, including her ally Teeny. The two had a tense conversation where the more emotion-driven Teeny confronted Genevieve for intentionally trying to leave them out of the vote, while Genevieve tried to explain her more cutthroat gameplay and desire to reduce emotional connections.
This is the kind of conversation I’ll never get tired of seeing play out on Survivor: two very different people coming to grips with the ways the game will put them at odds and force them to make difficult decisions. Teeny and Genevieve aren’t enemies, but they’ve both accepted the truth that their games are more or less incompatible.
Sue Hates Kyle
Gia: Remember when Kyle voted for Sue in the second episode of the season because he was left out of the real vote being TK? Well, Sue certainly did not forget, and she’s making sure everyone (including players, production, and the audience) knows it. We’ve been aware of her dislike of him since episode 3, but now we finally have a segment solely dedicated to it. Was it strategically the most important aspect of the season to report on? No. Was it funny? Absolutely, and that’s what truly matters.
The Tides Turn on Tuku
Gia: The four remaining Tuku members have been riding high for the past few rounds, but that all came crashing down this episode. While they had the benefit of Genevieve making herself quite a target lately, at the end of the day one player couldn’t outshine four. While the initial debate for who should go was between Kyle and Gabe, Kyle ended up winning immunity once again. He correctly assumed that Gabe would try to target him, and he and Caroline voted with the majority to oust him for good.

Idols
Christine: I bet you keep forgetting that Sue has an idol, don’t you? I sure do. She and Rachel are our sole idol holders, with Rachel’s idol being a total secret. We haven’t heard anything about Sue’s idol since the merge, but after being left out of the Gabe vote this round, I suspect we might finally hear her talk about it next week if she feels like she’s on the outs now that Gabe is gone.
Shot in the Dark
Gia: In an interesting turn of events, Shot in the Dark is officially done for 47. Rather than give up their chance to win immunity, the players decided to give up their Shots in the Dark instead for enough rice to last them until the end of the game. An extra special kudos should be given to Rachel, who had already played her Shot in the Dark, and therefore didn’t have to give anything up!
Top 3 Players
Teeny
Christine: While Teeny was on the right side of the vote last week, they entered this episode feeling at rock bottom after realizing that their close ally Genevieve was working behind their back to spearhead the Sol vote. As they grappled with this betrayal and tried to navigate their complex relationship with Genevieve, we got a little personal insight into Teeny’s mindset when they opened up about their journey with their gender identity.
This was a lovely personal scene to include in the show, since Teeny’s relationship with their own identity is going to, of course, impact the way they experience a complex social game like Survivor. Genevieve surviving this episode has me very hopeful that we’ll at least get to see the complicated Teeny/Genevieve dynamic evolve even further.
Rachel
Christine: Rachel has been playing a fantastic game this merge, even if some players like Genevieve have clocked her as a major threat. After having her spot blown up by Sam last episode, she went on reward with him and Kyle and strengthened her bonds with both. I really appreciated that Rachel directly confronted Sam about his shenanigans in the last episode. This cast is big on confronting each other when they hear a rumor or have a problem with something, and it’s led to some great conversations this season. Rachel has an idol no one knows about and has positioned herself well in the dynamics of this merge tribe, and she essentially got free rice when everyone else gave up their Shots in the Dark.
Kyle
Gia: Kyle has been the undisputed challenge beast of the merge; that much is true. However, we finally got to see a little more of his cutthroat side in this episode, which was a nice change from his usual edit. He’s known for a while that Gabe was likely to target him, but he was finally able to pull one over on him thanks to a clutch fourth immunity win. Not only was he on the verge of making history, but he was finally able to set himself apart from his other tribe mates. Personally, I hope he is able to win immunity again. He’s quickly become one of my favorite contestants of the season, and this episode solidified it.
Fallen Comrades
Gabe
Christine: Gabe came into this game clearly trying to solidify himself as an iconic Survivor villain. In my opinion, he didn’t fully make his mark as a memorable villainous character, but he was an entertaining presence nonetheless and a fun narrator this season. Had he truly been more of a full-blown villain, he could’ve had a shot at making it much further in the game as someone people wanted to sit next to at the end. But instead, he ended up being a generally threatening strategic player who no one wanted to risk getting further in the game.
He really should’ve pushed for Kyle to go in the last round when he had the chance, even though he was his ally. A Kyle vote last round would have perhaps gotten some of the heat off of the Tukus and onto the Lavos this round while still keeping Gabe’s core trio with Sue and Caroline intact. Instead, the Tukus came into this round as the biggest starting tribe, and with Kyle immune, Gabe was left as the most obvious Tuku target. On his way out, Gabe insisted he would be back to play again, and I think he could have some returnee potential for a future Second Chances-type season.
Gia: Some people loved him, others couldn’t stand him, but there’s no denying that Gabe was a force from beginning to end. He was undeniably the standout character on Tuku in the pre-merge, and he had a dominating run in the early stages of the merge. Unfortunately for Gabe, everyone else also picked up on how strong of a game he was playing, and his alliances weren’t strong enough to keep him past the final nine. He was a great player to watch this season, but I’m equally excited to see how he is as a juror.
