Each week Inside Survivor contributor Rob Brodeur will be collecting various Survivor-related statistics and information based off the latest episode of Survivor 44.

Immunity Challenge: “A Bridge You Must Cross”

  • Both players that won the challenges for their tribes are LGBTQ.
  • Variations of this challenge were previously used in Worlds Apart, David vs. Goliath, Edge of Extinction, and Winners at War.
    • This challenge has only been used on seasons with three pre-merge tribes.
    • The same version of the immunity challenge was previously used in David vs. Goliath and in both seasons, the orange tribe was first, the green tribe was second, and the purple tribe lost.

Confessionals

  • Carolyn had the most confessionals this episode with 8.
  • Jaime, Heidi, and Josh had 0 confessionals this episode.
  • Brandon has the most confessionals so far this season with 15.

Hidden Immunity Idol/Advantage

  • Danny found the Soka hidden immunity idol.
    • Danny is the 100th man to find a hidden immunity idol.
    • Danny is the fifth firefighter to find a hidden immunity idol. The others are as follows:
      • Tom Westman in Heroes vs. Villains
      • Keith Nale in San Juan del Sur
      • Jeremy Collins in Cambodia
      • Mike Turner in Survivor 42
  • Carolyn found the Tika hidden immunity idol.
  • Each tribe’s hidden immunity idol and fake immunity idol correspond to the real/fake ones from the other tribes.
    • Ratu: string of beads (real hidden immunity idol), tribe colored medallion (fake hidden immunity idol).
    • Soka: tribe colored medallion (real hidden immunity idol), coin (fake hidden immunity idol).
    • Tika: coin (real hidden immunity idol), string of beads (fake hidden immunity idol).
  • This is the first time since Winners at War where multiple players found a hidden immunity idol.
    • Coincidentally, both were in episode 2.

Tribal Council

  • Helen was voted out 3-1.
    • She’s the third woman in a row voted out on day 5.
      • Justine was voted out on day 5 in Survivor 43, and Marya was voted out on day 5 in Survivor 42.
    • David Voce is the only man voted out on day 5 in the “new era”
      • The only other man voted out on day 5 was Matt Elrod in Redemption Island. Mike Borassi was also evacuated on day 5 in Samoa.
        • Voce is the only man to be voted out on day 5 and be permanently eliminated from the game.
  • An Asian-American woman has been voted out pre-merge in every “new era” season.
    • 41: Genie
    • 42: Jenny & Swati
    • 43: Justine
    • 44: Helen
  • Game Changers is the most recent season to not have an Asian-American player voted out pre-merge.
    • Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers: Simone
    • Ghost Island: James

    • Edge of Extinction: No Asian-American players on the cast
    • Island of the Idols: Vince
    • Winners at War: Natalie
    • 41: Genie

  • Sarah is the only woman on Tika without any votes against her.
  • This is the 17th Survivor season where the first two players to be voted out are women.
    • Africa: Diane & Jessie

    • Panama: Tina & Melinda
    • Fiji: Jessica & Erica
    • Gabon: Michelle & Gillian
    • Tocantins: Carolina & Candace

      • You could also include Blood vs. Water in another scenario, as their first impression vote had Laura B. and Candice voted out, but Rupert swapped with Laura B.

    • Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers: Katrina & Simone

  • Survivor 43 is the only season in the “new era” where no tribe lost two people within the first two episodes.
    • 41: Yase lost Abraham & Voce in the first two episodes.
    • 42: Taku lost Jackson & Marya in the first two episodes.
    • 44: Tika lost Bruce & Helen in the first 2 episodes
  • In all four “new era” seasons so far, one tribe has never gone to tribal council within the first two episodes.
    • 41: Luvu didn’t attend tribal council in the first two episodes.
    • 42: Vati didn’t attend tribal council in the first two episodes.
    • 43: Coco didn’t attend tribal council in the first two episodes.
    • 44: Soka didn’t attend tribal council in the first two episodes.
      • This has only happened with blue and green tribes, and the “safe” tribe colors alternated each season.

Ratings

Episode Title

  • The episode title “Two Big Dorky Magnets” was said by Frannie in a confessional about her relationship with Matt.

Fun Fact

  • This episode aired on International Women’s Day.
    • Of the five players voted out in an episode that aired on International Women’s Day, three of them were women (Rita in Fiji, Ciera in Game Changers, and Helen in Survivor 44)
  • It was also Wendell Holland’s (winner of Ghost Island) birthday.
