Next Time On Survivor – Episode 4

Welcome to Season 43’s Next Time On Survivor feature on the Inside Survivor site! It’s a tiny space on the internet where I look at episode preview trailers, attempt to decipher them, and give my thoughts on what I think may happen in the upcoming episode.

This week’s NTOS trailer introduces something we’ve not seen in a while: “The winning tribe earns the right to steal from the other two tribe camps.” Jeff’s announcement at the challenge is met with lots of shocked faces from the remaining 15 players of Survivor 43.

The trailer immediately cuts to Lindsay with a big smile on her face, “I’ve got people that I wanna get revenge on.” This is clearly an out-of-context confessional, as the trailer won’t reveal the tribe who wins the challenge that explicitly. I can’t really guess why Lindsay would say this, as we don’t know about any antagonistic relationships she has. We just know that she wants to build an alliance with the women on Coco and bring in James as a fourth member to form the majority on their still complete tribe of six.

Perhaps this confessional is just a convenient soundbite from way later on in the game when she’s exacting some sort of revenge after being blindsided. But, because of the light-hearted tone, I’m inclined to believe it’s more likely a trivial “revenge.” Maybe Coco loses the upcoming challenge and another tribe steals from them, causing Lindsay to jest here that she’ll take revenge on the people who stole from Coco.

The next portion of the NTOS trailer splices a couple more different scenes. First, James says to at least Geo and Ryan, “If they’re gonna play games, then this is war.” And this is immediately followed by Cody declaring, “We’re at war, man!” In a confessional, Elie explains, “It becomes really tricky when you touch nerves.”

Altogether, I feel these soundbites are merely meant to hype up the stealing reward as an impending battle between the tribes. However, I think it’ll be more likely that the winning tribe acts cautious about their decision and tries not to shake things up too much when stealing from the other tribes. After all, it’s unwise to burn bridges for a production twist in which you’re forced to partake.

The trailer then ends with a confessional from Noelle, sounding slightly peeved to me, saying, “It’s a cut-throat freaking game.” I could see her being annoyed with Cody or Jesse’s remorse for voting their ally Nneka out to keep challenge strength. She now sits rather comfortably with Dwight and a vote-steal advantage. If Vesi goes to tribal council again, I think it’ll be a split with Noelle, Dwight, and her vote steal on one side, and Cody and his immunity idol on the other.

This lets Jesse sit in the middle with options. I’m sticking to my read from last week that Jesse is in some sort of power position, having formed good connections with both sides of Vesi while avoiding being targeted. With the limited info I have, my prediction is that Jesse chooses Cody as they seem closer, brings Dwight on board, and blindsides Noelle with her advantage.

If Coco goes to tribal council, unfortunately, it’s quite an uneventful prediction from me. I think it’ll be Karla, Lindsay, Cassidy, and James playing together comfortably versus Geo and Ryan. I can’t really tell the two apart in terms of their standing on Coco, so my wild guess is that Geo will be voted out.

For Baka, with no new preview content about their tribe dynamics, I can only stick to my prediction from last week that the three guys, Owen, Sami, and Gabler, will surprise the girls with their alliance and vote Jeanine out (Elie as the vote is too obvious). I think Owen could potentially stir the pot and vote with the girls instead, but he’ll need to have a good reason to. Perhaps Gabler becomes too great a liability at challenges and at camp, or Sami gets caught over-strategising.

  1. I think it Vesi goes Nolle will steal Jesse vote to try and make it 3-1 on Cody. But Cody will get spooked and play his idol and his loan vote will send Dwight out.

If Baka goes. I agree that it will be jennine to go. Either that or gabler walks

If coco goes I agree that Geo goes since Ryan is perceived as stronger
