Welcome to Give Me Five! Each week, Brent Sullivan will look at the top five impactful moments from the latest episode that could influence the rest of the season.
Fantastic end to a great episode. I really wasn’t sure how it was going to go until it was all done. Some genuinely great gameplay and we got to see a lot more people than we did in the first two episodes. I will miss Morgan, I think that she had potential, but she just ended up on the wrong end of swap vote.
1. Tribe swap. This is a tricky choice, especially since the next three items all happened because of the swap, but they were big enough to stand alone, where I just want to make a more general statement about the swap. Along with everything else that happened due to the shake-up on Day 7, some other interesting things to note are Angela breaking down about having to be split up. That came back a little later in the episode when she decided that she wanted to stay with her former tribe and not vote off Domenick. Are we in for more Angela emotion next week when we get to see her reaction to tribal council? I also thought it was great that Chris and Domenick ended up on the same tribe again. Those two are going to continue to butt heads and try to get each other voted out until only one of them is left. That is bound to affect everyone around them as they duke it out. Finally, I thought it was funny that both tribes ended up with an equal number of players from each tribe. With both tribes being five original Naviti and four original Malolo, we are going to hear a lot about former tribe lines for a bit. We saw that the Malolo four on New Naviti ended up getting the upper hand. What will happen if New Malolo has to go to tribal?
2. One complaining tribe. I got a big kick out of this one. I thought it was humorous that the former Naviti members were complaining so much about the Malolo camp. From what I could see, it wasn’t that bad, and by Survivor standards, it may actually be on the decent side. The issue is that Naviti has a fantastic camp, almost too nice for Survivor. But still, with that being said they were still griping about it a bit too much. Bradley was probably the most vocal about it with him moaning about the dirt, stating that their camp had a lot more sand and a better view. Welcome to Survivor, Bradley… this isn’t a 5-star hotel… you should be a little uncomfortable! I know that Bradley went on to soar in the puzzle portion of the challenge later, but this definitely wasn’t a good look.
3. A big idol is found. Now when I say that a big idol was found, I am not speaking in metaphors. The idol – one of James Clement’s from Survivor: China – is literally massive. In fact, it is too big to fit in someone’s pocket, so hiding it should be entertaining. But on the practical side of things, the people who found it are the exact people who needed it. The four original Malolo worked together to look for it and then Brendan and Michael ended up finding it. That may be just what the four of them needed to even out the playing field. The questions that I have for them would be – 1. Will Michael and Brendan share this idol with Jenna and Stephanie? 2. Where in the world are they going to hide that thing? Let’s see how they use it in the next few weeks!
4. Rock draw for Ghost Island. The main reason that this was so impactful is because who knows what might have happened to Chris had he been at tribal council this week. Domenick was certain that it was going to be Chris who was voted out, but the way that they turned it around on Morgan, we really don’t know. The other thing that I want to mention here is that this may be the new trend for Ghost Island. Until the tribes get put together as one, I can see the winning tribe never again being able to choose the person that goes unanimously, and they will be forced to draw rocks for every Ghost Island participant. In the long run, this may end up being a good thing since being sent to Ghost Island means you are immune from being voted out.
5. Morgan wills the advantage to Domenick. I thought that this was a bit of a surprise move. I know that they were on a tribe together at the start and that they were aligned again here this week, but I just had a feeling that Morgan was going to will her advantage to Libby – which would have been great since Libby helped get her out of the game. Domenick now has a fake idol, a real idol, and a legacy advantage. This is Ghost Island, and I am sure that Domenick will have a chance to reverse the cure of one of them. He will have to be careful though, he is already coming off as paranoid and a Russell Hantz sort of figure, let’s see if he can break that curse!
There you go. What moments from this week’s episode do you think made an impact?
