Welcome to Give Me Five! Each week, Brent Sullivan will look at the top five moments from the latest episode that could influence the rest of the season.
1. Jay talks with…everyone. This was a very Jay heavy episode. First, we see Jay talking with Hannah. This might have been more of a setup for what happens at the reward challenge, but we see Hannah acting like she may want to work with him again. Next, he talks with Adam. This one didn’t exactly go his way. He left feeling like Adam was mocking him and rubbing it in his face that he was on the bottom. Later, we see that Sunday decides to start playing this season and has the silly idea to vote out Jessica and who does she go to tell her play to? That’s right; it’s Jay again. Nothing came from this one, at least not yet. Although I have a feeling that I will be writing about this one again soon. Finally, you see the last supper talk between Jay and Taylor. It really seemed like Jay was the focal point of everyone’s conversations. What does that mean? It could mean that he is making some bonds to last him a little while longer in the game. Why are we seeing so much strategy talk revolve around this guy? I think that we will get our answer very soon.
2. The reward challenge. This particular reward didn’t have a huge impact on the game, mostly because five of the six Gen-Xers were all there with Taylor so there wasn’t a whole lot going on. However, what did happen is we got to hear Sunday talk about how she doesn’t trust Jessica, Ken, and David. I think that we can all agree that this is going to be huge coming up. At some point, those six will have to turn on each other, and we can just start to see the cracks where that can happen.
3. Zeke and Will sit out of the immunity challenge. This may not end up amounting to anything, but Jeff sure kept bringing it up during the entire challenge. Survivor history shows that sitting out a challenge for food has mixed results. Some seasons it happens and no one cares, other times it happens and people freak out, and it hurts their standing in the game because people think that they are too cocky. Ultimately, it doesn’t seem like this is going to make a very big impact, but I have to point it out because when two people sit out of an immunity challenge, there is always the possibility that it could lead to something.
4. Adam’s reward is out in the open. Wow, what a tribal council! Taylor outed himself about stealing food and then he and Jay threw Adam under the bus about his game advantage. There is a double impact here. Taylor went home. Yes, he might have gone home anyway, but he sure didn’t make himself look very good in front of everyone in the process. The second thing is everyone now knows about Adam’s reward stealing advantage, and he reacted very poorly to this. My opinion is that he should have just pointed out that Jay and Taylor were on the bottom and that they are just scrambling and making up lies. Even being quiet might have been a better reaction, but he was loud and fought his position against the two. The big question here is, do they believe him. I am sure that we will find out as soon as the next episode starts. There has to be some fallout from that tribal.
5. No one played an idol. My final point is that I am amazed that as many times as we heard both Adam and Jay come up in conversation, neither one of them played their idols. That means we still have three of them in the game. This should be exciting coming down the stretch to see who plays their idol first, if they play it at all, or who finds out that they have one.
There you go. What moments from this week do you think made an impact?
