In the thirteenth episode of Survivor South Africa: Immunity Island, we saw the elimination of 39-year-old Online Business Owner, Santoni Engelbrecht. It was another episode of ever-changing plans, leading to an intense Tribal Council that culminated in one of the closest fire-making challenges ever.
All eyes were on Chappies following last week’s food-stealing, with the first plan to get rid of him should he not win Immunity. However, after claiming victory in the loved one’s reward challenge, Chappies earned an advantage to pick his two Immunity challenge opponents. After wisely selecting Santoni and Anela, Chappies was able to win his third Immunity necklace in a row.
With Chappies now off the table, the vote moved to Santoni—that was until Kiran had another idea. Having secured an idol earlier in the episode, Kiran felt empowered to make a move against Nicole, knowing that she is much more of a challenge threat than Santoni. With Chappies and Santoni believing the vote was on Tyson, and Nicole thinking the vote was on Santoni, it would allow the trio of Kiran, Tyson, and Anela to blindside Nicole.
However, this didn’t sit well with Anela, who had formed a close alliance with Nicole. This is when Anela came up with a plan to blindside Kiran, aligning with Nicole, Chappies, and Santoni. But, when Santoni wanted to tweak the plan to split the votes two on Kiran and two on Tyson (in case of an idol play), Anela became frustrated and decided to blow up the plan and his own game in the process.
At the last minute, Anela let Kiran know that he was planning to blindside him but had now decided against it. This confession baffled Kiran, who exposed the whole situation at Tribal in another intense showdown.
In the end, Kiran played his idol for himself, and, in response, Nicole played her fire idol, forcing the two highest vote-getters (Santoni and Tyson) into a fire-making challenge. Despite Santoni getting a flame first, it was Tyson who ultimately won the challenge, sending Santoni to the jury in dramatic fashion.
The winner of last week’s poll was Chappies with 378 Votes (55.10%).
