Welcome to Season 51’s Next Time On Survivor weekly feature on the Inside Survivor site! If you’re new around here, I’m Steph from sunny, tropical, humid Singapore. This is a tiny space where I give my best attempts at understanding preview trailers and make my predictions for the show’s next episodes.
The most jarring portion of the NTOS trailer is definitely Brady’s injury he sustains while chopping with the machete. His hands are very bloodied, and it looks to be severe enough to potentially require a medical evacuation. He repeatedly asks, “Did I just knock myself out of the game,” berating and beating himself up about it while the producer tells him to focus on applying pressure to the injury.
In a confessional, Brady’s Toka tribemate Mike says, “He has amazingly little care for the injury itself, and amazing amount of care for is he going to be pulled from the game.” This, to me, really cements Brady’s dedication and passion for the game, as we saw in the premiere as well. His exclamations and exuberance during the challenge have been noticed and rubbed at least one tribemate the wrong way.
Fortunately for Brady, even though this was a point of contention, the last tribal council went his way. However, I feel like it was merely a small short-term win, as he was portrayed as pretty stubborn, emotionally driven, and even sensitive, hastily changing his vote and losing his composure. Nonetheless, I believe if he pulls through this injury, he’ll stick around for a while as his tribe needs his strength for challenges.
Next, the NTOS trailer spotlights a short moment between Eric and Rob from the Savu tribe. I found this interesting as we were fed their little Rhode Island alliance rather prominently in the premiere. As someone from a country a quarter the size of Rhode Island, I can’t relate to this connection, but I see how it might be used as a natural talking point to pair up in a social game.
However, I don’t think this alliance will make it far. It seems rather one-sided, with Rob questioning his commitment to Eric, and Eric mostly getting clowned as an over-the-top character. If Savu goes to tribal council next, I predict we will see some friction and Eric being a good candidate to be voted out.
If Toka goes to tribal, though, my prediction is that one of the quieter players like Maggie or Thien will be voted out. The vibe I’m getting is that bigger personalities like Devin, Brady, and Kilby will run the tribe, at least for this early stage of the game. The title of Episode 2, “Weaponized Honesty,” sounds like an extension of what Devin shared in the premiere about “radical honesty” during tribal council. For me, such jargony declarations signal confidence that’s being positively highlighted—a good sign for whoever devises it in the next episode.
Jeff gave a foreboding warning that players should expect “permanent uncertainty” in this new season. I’m looking forward to seeing what this open era has in store! What do you think will happen in Episode 2? Leave your predictions in the comments.
