Welcome to Season 50’s Next Time On Survivor weekly feature on the Inside Survivor site! If you’re new around here, I’m Steph from sunny, tropical, humid Singapore. This is a tiny space where I give my best attempts at understanding preview trailers and make my predictions for the show’s next episodes.
The NTOS trailer begins with a quick shot right after Episode 4’s tribal council. “Ozzy is pissed,” Stephenie shares in a voice-over, which is expected because he wasn’t aware of not one, but two plans. Luckily for him, Angelina also played incorrectly at the last tribal, casting her vote for Emily, and was similarly blindsided by Christian’s successful plan in taking Mike White out with three votes.
Seeing the tribe’s abysmal performance at the last immunity challenge, I wouldn’t be surprised if Vatu returns to tribal next episode, especially since we hear Jeff announcing that two tribes will be voting someone off. Even though Christian has doubts about Emily’s reliability, I don’t think he’ll rock the boat too soon in a tribe of just five players. I think we’ll see Angelina and Ozzy as targets, as a continuation from the last episode.
There’s just so much content in the preview trailers about Cila rather than Kalo that we have to think that Cila is going to tribal. In a sneak peek scene, Rick and Jonathan are having a conversation, discussing a “Kalo-strong Cila tribe”. This refers to the four original Kalo players—Charlie, Kamilla, Jonathan, and Dee—making up the majority of the seven-person Cila tribe. With Rick seemingly aligned with Jonathan and company, this leaves just Cirie and Rizo as options.
In the same scene, Jonathan claims he’s wary of Rizo, saying that he “looks like he’s trying to come up with a plan every five seconds”. In the NTOS trailer, Rizo is also at the centre, clapping back in a confessional at someone, and finally declaring “this is operation bad blood” as the shot lingers on Charlie. “Bad blood” is likely a song title reference to Charlie’s idol, Taylor Swift.
Clearly, we’re about to see an escalation of the rivalry between Rizo and Charlie that has been set up in earlier episodes. While it seemed more like Charlie’s one-sided beef with Rizo previously, it now looks like Rizo has been made aware of Charlie’s plots and is cooking up a plan to take him out first. Based on Charlie’s obsessive portrayal over this rivalry, I predict Rizo’s coming out on top and will manage to best Charlie, perhaps with a plan involving Cirie and Dee as hinted in the trailers, and with his gifted boomerang idol.
What do you think will happen in Episode 5? Leave your predictions in the comments!
