Survivor: 50 For 50 – Christian Hubicki

Who should be invited back for Survivor’s milestone season?

CBS

Welcome to Inside Survivor’s 50 For 50, a semi-regular feature highlighting 50 former castaways who we think should be considered for a spot on Survivor 50. In a snake draft, the Inside Survivor team selected ten players each, with the only rule being they couldn’t have played more than twice.

PROFILE

Name: Christian Hubicki
Age: 38
Season: Survivor: David vs. Goliath, 2018
Finish: 7th Place

HIGHLIGHTS

Survivor: David vs. Goliath was a season of stars, and Christian shone right from the very start. From the moment he mastered the puzzle at the marooning and went into a thorough, detailed explanation in confessional, viewers knew Christian was one to watch.

The show loves its ‘nerd’ archetypes, and sometimes, those players can blend into one another, but Christian stands out from the pack. While previous ‘nerd’ archetypes like John Cochran and David Wright were marked by their insecurities and confidence issues, Christian entered Survivor as a nerd completely comfortable in his skin.

Christian wore his nerd badge proudly and had no trouble making friends. He quickly bonded with Gabby Pascuzzi and eventual winner Nick Wilson. He found a way to connect with people no matter their background or life experience. He could nerd out with Gabby but just as easily bro-down with The Mayor of Slamtown and the Brochachos alliance.

At the merge, it soon became clear how big of a threat Christian was, especially after he rambled his way to an impressive endurance immunity challenge win. But he’d made such strong bonds with his fellow Davids that when he did come under attack, Davie Rickenbacker chose to play his idol to save Christian. He’d later find an idol of his own and used it to defend himself against a blindside from his closest ally, Gabby.

Ultimately, Christian’s threat level caught up with him and he was eliminated in 7th place by a 3-2-0 vote.

WHY HE SHOULD BE CONSIDERED

Christian is both a strong strategic player and a great character, someone who would be a fine addition to any returnee cast. His ability to connect with various personality types would make for some fun interactions between him and other iconic characters of Survivor past.

Whether he could make a deep run again remains to be seen. Had he returned soon after David vs. Goliath, I think he’d have been an instant target. But enough time might have passed by the time Survivor 50 rolls around, giving Christian a chance to hide behind some bigger, more recent characters.

Regardless of his chances, Christian seems a lock of Survivor 50 if he wants to do it. His out-of-the-box thinking would be ideal for the new era with its numerous advantages and twists. Seeing how Christian would approach things like beware advantages would make for interesting television. And maybe he’ll make some new brochachos along the way.
