Next Time On Survivor – Episode 7

Steph Lauw makes her predictions for the next episode!

CBS

Welcome to Season 47’s Next Time On Survivor weekly feature on the Inside Survivor site! If you’re new around here, I’m Steph from sunny, tropical, humid Singapore. This is a tiny space where I give my best attempts at understanding preview trailers and make my predictions for the show’s next episodes.

First up, the NTOS trailer begins with Andy in what seems to be a post-tribal night scene. He says, “We need to get rid of Gata,” and reveals, “I need to take control. If they’re gonna come for me, I’m gonna get them first.”

Andy’s probably spooked by the two votes he landed at the last episode’s tribal council. Even though they were from Sue and Sol, it wouldn’t take much investigation to figure out that he was the agreed-upon decoy target by the majority and, more importantly, that Sam wasn’t opposed to it at the reward. This conscious decision by Sam was previously highlighted, so I think we’ll see how it impacts their relationship moving forward.

I can see Andy grouping up with Teeny and Sol and maybe joining the majority Tuku alliance to turn on his former tribemates, starting with Sam. With Rachel blindsided, Andy betrayed, and Sierra being rather indecisive, I don’t see Gata lasting much longer as an alliance in the post-merge.

Next, we get a short scene of Rachel, Teeny, Tiyana, and Sierra. Someone says, “We gotta get a boy out,” before Teeny says in a confessional, “We’re going to eat all the men.” We’ve seen various hints at this, including Rachel, Teeny, and Caroline connecting at the pre-merge sanctuary reward. Rachel and Teeny, in particular, probably don’t feel all that comfortable with Lavo and Gata, respectively, after getting blindsided and left out of votes.

However, we’ve been dangled such alliances many times before in previous seasons, but it never plays out as previewed. There are simply too many people involved, and there will always be uneven levels of commitment and sacrifice needed. I think it’s more likely that the players stick to the alliances they have fostered.

To cap off the NTOS trailer, Sol has a moment excitedly revealing, “No one knows what I’m about to pull.” This is likely the secret advantage in the episode description that “leads to a shocking change in the game.” It seems to be something that Sol can use independently, unlike the standard immunity idol or extra vote, which still requires him to have enough numbers. My guess is that it may be a challenge advantage.

Finally, we get a bit of a preview that “the immunity challenge leaves one group of castaways with a much-needed reward and safety in the game.” This indicates that they will be split into teams of six for the challenge, and the losing team will have to go to tribal council. This twist would definitely throw most pre-challenge discussions and new alliances out. With only six players up for the vote, it’ll certainly be more claustrophobic than the 13-person group last week. It’s likely that the players play safe with their existing alliances rather than try something new.

All in all, the vote will depend on the make-up of the six losing players. I predict we’ll see more developments in the Gabe versus Tiyana rivalry. In the NTOS preview, Gabe gives a confident “These people are just tools for me to use.” While this exaggeration maybe pride before his fall, it doesn’t seem as clowning and cocky as Rome, so I feel that it just indicates that Gabe has options and will be in control of the upcoming vote.
