Next Time On Survivor – Finale

Steph Lauw makes her predictions for the last episode!

CBS

Welcome to Season 45’s Next Time On Survivor weekly feature on the Inside Survivor site! If you’re new around here, I’m Steph from sunny, tropical, humid Singapore. This is a tiny space where I give my best attempts at understanding preview trailers and make my predictions for the show’s next episodes.

For those familiar with previous seasons of Survivor, the preview trailers for the finale episode usually follow a similar structure, hyping up each of the remaining players, showing some snippets of the upcoming challenges, and recapping the amount of effort it took the players to get through the season. At this season finale, we’re left with five players: Katurah, Jake, Austin, Julie, and Dee.

The next episode’s preview trailer quickly highlights a small portion of game talk. Katurah says to Julie, “We blindside Dee now.” Indeed, Dee is definitely the obstacle for all other players to overcome at this point. And I’m sure she will win the season if she makes it to final tribal council. The votes have almost always gone her way, and she has Austin and Julie on board with her decisions thus far. She’s pulled off two individual immunity challenge wins and has made strategic moves the jury will give her credit for.

It’s interesting that Katurah approaches Julie in her plan to blindside Dee, as I really can’t tell how Julie will react. On the one hand, I can see her wanting to take Dee out as she recognizes her as a threat to win. Julie should also be wary that Dee may choose Austin over her, given how their showmance is so openly displayed.

However, on the other hand, Julie may feel that she has a better chance making it to final tribal trusting Dee to ride the end game out together. All the other remaining players voted for her just two episodes ago, so it’s not unwise to be cautious of another potential blindside. It’ll all boil down to how much Julie trusts Katurah and Jake.

Another factor to consider would be Jake’s immunity idol, which he found in the last episode. He’s been talking about using it to make a move, gain some control over the vote, and add it as a line item on his resume to the jury. Unfortunately, I feel like it’s not only too little too late, but Jake may not play the idol to the success that he expects. As we saw last week, even if his plan plays out, there are other plans in the making that diminish the significance of his.

I predict that Jake makes it to the end, as he’s not seen as a winning threat to the other players, but he fails to convince the jury of his agency and control over the game to get their votes to win.

Overall, here’s my prediction for the finale. I think Julie will get voted out next. At this point, I don’t think the players truly believe she’s the biggest jury threat as the caring mother of the tribe, but it’s more likely a convenient impression to cement so that they don’t become the alternative target.

In the final four, I think Dee goes up against Austin. They’ve made some comments about going up against each other, and I think it’s a subtle foreshadowing of them competing in the fire-making challenge. I predict that Dee wins and ultimately wins the season against Katurah and Jake, as she’s able to convince the jury of all the silent but deadly moves that she’s been making.

  1. I think Dee wins her third Immunity, Reba vote for Katurah, Jake idols Katurah and he and Katurah vote Austin out to break up the Showmance.

At 4 Jake wins immunity and puts Julie and Dee against each other in fire. Julie beats Dee and Katurah wins the season. Or Dee beats Julie and Wins the season.

I’m hoping somehow Jake wins but don’t see how.

  2. I see a scenario where the remaining 4 not named Julie don’t see her as a threat to win and actually want her sitting beside them. I do see the turning point being if Julie goes with Jake/Katurah to vote out whoever doesn’t win immunity next (Austin or Dee). Then, I see the Austin / Dee survivor taking out Julie to take Jake and Katurah to the finale. I agree with your rationale of a Dee win, but see it 50/50 with an Austin win depending on who wins immunity before the 5th person is voted out. Should be fun!

  3. If Austin feels that blindsiding Drew could happen to him, he could easily sway Jake and Katurah into voting Dee…if he realizes that Dee is there first to win, then for showmance, which contradicts his earlier stance of showmance first, then winning.

  4. Julie sides with Jake and Katura to take Dee out then convinces her new allies that taking out Austin is the best move… Jake has no chance and Julie has a stronger argument then Katura… for the win!
