Next Time On Survivor – Episode 5

Welcome to Season 43’s Next Time On Survivor feature on the Inside Survivor site! It’s a tiny space on the internet where I look at episode preview trailers, attempt to decipher them, and give my thoughts on what I think may happen in the upcoming episode.

This week’s NTOS preview trailer begins with the post-tribal fallout of Coco. Geo says to Cassidy, “You are not on our side,” likely referring to his sole vote for Cassidy while the rest of the remaining tribe voted for Lindsay to go home. It has to be a wake-up call for Geo, who looked to be confident of his plans and his mistaken control of the tribe in the previous episode.

Cassidy then says, “They think they have the numbers, but revenge is a dish best served cold.” From the visuals flashed during this confessional, we can infer a split with Ryan and Geo on one end and Karla and Cassidy on the other. Cassidy may be referring to Geo thinking he has James and Karla on his side when, in actuality, the two plus Cassidy seem to have a relatively solidified alliance that has been more consistently highlighted to us since the premiere episode. I predict that the target will revert to Geo if Coco returns to tribal council before the merge.

Next, we see Jeanine from Baka, Jesse from Vesi, and Geo from Coco journeying to the summit island for the season’s risk/reward twist. Jesse declares, “I came here to dream big and go for it. It’s a million-dollar game!” which leads me to believe he’ll risk his vote, especially since he seems to be in a great position on his tribe, working well with all three of Dwight, Noelle, and Cody.

As I’ve written about previously, I predict that Jesse will be the player to determine the vote on Vesi. Seeing that he and Dwight still seem pretty close despite Jesse leaving Dwight out of the vote two episodes ago, I think Jesse, Dwight, and Noelle, will blindside Cody if Vesi loses the next immunity challenge. The tough part for Jesse would be to convince Cody not to play his immunity idol or to play it wrongly.

On Baka, we are shown a scene of Owen reading the note from the Beware Advantage and a confessional of him cheekily saying, “I can mess some things up.” Immediately following, the trailer cuts to Jeanine running through the jungle and Elie saying, “Boom, over. We are screwed.”

Putting this together with the episode description, which states, “Two castaways get caught by another tribemate while opening a Beware Advantage,” my guess is that Jeanine and Elie first find the Beware Advantage but are caught by Owen. After reading and finding out what must be done to achieve the immunity idol, Owen now has the power and choice to help or impede them. The previous few episodes have set him up in the middle of the tribe, being on good terms with Elie and Jeanine, as well as the guys, Gabler and Sami.

I would think Owen maintains this position for as long as he can and instead passes on the information requirements of the Beware Advantage to Gabler and Sami to possibly block Jeanine and Elie. They may choose not to pass them their beads, causing them to lose their vote. This is just my personal guess, as I have this nagging feeling that Owen is about to make a power play on Baka soon.

It’s a pity Lindsay blew up the Coco women’s alliance and her own game with her pre-tribal council paranoi last week. I was really rooting for a successful women’s alliance. Now, Season 43 is down to five women, compared to the nine remaining men. I’m still predicting a women’s alliance down the line, in the post-merge, though. But for now, I think Vesi will be visiting tribal again next episode, purely due to their weaker challenge strength. And I think Cody will be voted out. If Coco goes to tribal, my guess is Geo, and if Baka goes, my guess will be Jeanine.

  1. I think Baka will go and both Elie and gabler play idols but the vote is Jennine and she goes home.

I agree if coco goes Geo will leave

I don’t think Jesse will turn on Cody. I think if Vesi goes Cody or Jesse will use an idol/advantage to oust Dwight. Even with Noelles vote steal

  2. Hiya Stephanie,
One tiny request, could you perhaps post your insights one day earlier?
Maybe out on Tuesdays please please.
I’m in a Fantasy League and your analysis has helped me tremendously.
    Thanks.
