Welcome to Season 42’s Next Time On Survivor feature on Inside Survivor! This is a tiny section where I breakdown the trailers and any other previews and give my personal predictions of the week’s upcoming episode.

The NTOS trailer for episode 4 is split up to separately showcase each of the three tribes. Let’s start with Vati since it shows the immediate fallout from episode 3’s Tribal Council.

We see Mike confronting Daniel at night, still reeling from losing his closest ally Jenny in a wild Tribal. To give a brief recap, after a tie and a deadlock, Daniel switched his vote from Lydia to Jenny to match Hai’s, sending Jenny home. Understandably, Mike is pissed off with Daniel, and I’m guessing so is the rest of the tribe.

In the coming episode, Daniel will have to deal with the consequences of his vote, his flipping, and the lies that he told before and during Tribal. At this point, I think the whole tribe is against him—he was caught voting against Hai & Lydia even though he gave them his word to work together, he threw his closest partner Chanelle under the bus, and he flipped on his alliance with Mike, caving under the pressure of a potential rock draw. I wouldn’t be surprised if the tribe just votes him out at the next opportunity. I suspect that the rest of Vati may feel it would be a cleaner path moving forward with one less unreliable, conspiring player to deal with.

On Taku, the preview centres on Jonathan. It begins with Maryanne telling Omar, “I’m just angry at Jonathan,” and Omar giving a confessional saying, “Jonathan opens his big mouth. My main man is a bit of a slob.” I think that this may be the same situation that episode 4’s description is referring to—”One castaway paints a target on their back when they attempt to pit their tribemates against one another.”

However, I feel like this preview content may be exaggerating something not as consequential. Unless Jonathan acts completely differently in the coming episode, he has been portrayed in a solid alliance with Omar, at least, and has good relationships with the other members on Taku. Omar’s confessional here even refers to him as “main man,” which indicates that their alliance is still going strong but perhaps shaken up a little by something related to their daily camp life rather than game strategy. Of course, a player’s contribution at camp has led to their elimination before, but I don’t believe it’ll happen to Jonathan, especially because of his challenge prowess.

And finally, on Ika, the preview focuses on Rocksroy giving instructions around camp, and Romeo in a confessional imitating him barking orders, ending with a “Rocksroy, shut the hell up!” This is somewhat an extension from previous episodes, where Rocksroy was deemed as controlling and commanding as Ika built their shelter.

Somewhat similar to my thoughts on Jonathan, though, I don’t feel like Rocksroy is in trouble of elimination because his tribe needs him for challenges. From the season premiere, when Ika went to Tribal, I sensed that the tribe is a rather strategic one that decides based on long-term gameplay rather than rash decisions. From what I’ve gathered from seeing Ika’s dynamics in episode 2, I think the vote will be one of the three girls. We saw Drea reveal her extra vote to Tori and Swati, and Swati told Tori they should vote Drea out soon after. My prediction is that this trio will implode as they don’t trust one another.

Without going too much into edgic territory, I think Swati goes if Ika heads to Tribal this week. I think Drea and Tori are working together more closely than with her in the equation. If Vati goes to Tribal this week, I think Daniel easily goes as he will not be able to regain his footing after such a messy performance. I don’t see Jonathan letting Taku lose a challenge, so my prediction for episode 4’s vote will be between Swati and Daniel.
