It looks like the much-anticipated reboot of Survivor UK has found its new host, as The Sun reports that comedian and television presenter Joel Dommett has landed the highly coveted role.

Dommett currently hosts the British version of The Masked Singer and The Masked Dancer on ITV, but, according to The Sun, will be making the jump to the BBC for the upcoming Survivor revival. Fellow ITV personality Holly Willoughby was also rumored to be in the running for the position, but ultimately Dommett won out.

“He was offered the job just before Christmas and accepted almost immediately,” an inside source told The Sun. “It is his first BBC primetime role and is a huge leap for him. Holly was his closest competitor but is so busy it was hard for them to make the dates work.”

The source added: “Joel was a massive fan of the original series and made that clear when approached. He really impressed with his passion, and work on The Masked Singer and The Masked Dancer.”

Back in September, the BBC officially announced that Survivor UK would return in 2023 for a 16-episode season. Applications are now being accepted for Survivor hopefuls and will remain open until February 24, 2023. According to Variety, the season will film for eight weeks in the Dominican Republic.

Survivor UK originally aired for two seasons on ITV back in 2001 and 2002. News reporter Mark Austin hosted the first season, while cricket commentator Mark Nicholas took over for season two. The series was canceled after just two seasons.

  1. Interesting choice! I like that theyre keeping the J name tradition alive, we’ve got Jeff, Jonathan and Joel, all we neeed now is for Nico to change hsi name to Jico

  2. Joel is an interesting pick. I think he’ll be good but it depends on what they want the tone of the show to be. If they’re going for a slightly more light-hearted vibe than the American version, I think he’s a safe option. But, if they want really serious vibes I think there’s an element of risk attached to Joel
