Welcome to Season 51’s Next Time On Survivor weekly feature on the Inside Survivor site! If you’re new around here, I’m Steph from sunny, tropical, humid Singapore. This is a tiny space where I give my best attempts at understanding preview trailers and make my predictions for the show’s next episodes.
At this point, it’s expected to get a preview of the aftermath of tribal council. This time, we get a scene of the Toka tribe returning to camp. Brady is pissed off after the blindside, thinking Lewis and Carter were aligned with him. In reality, they voted against his plans after correctly assessing that they were the swing votes. Ultimately, Lewis and Carter joined Thien An, Jenna, Kilby, and Maggie to vote Patt out.
Naturally, Brady wasn’t having it, and he declared he’d do whatever it takes to survive. I find his enthusiasm and passion for the game entertaining enough, and honestly, I want to see him not get his way so we can watch him scramble and get worked up. It sure makes for good TV!
Next, the key part of the NTOS trailer and episode description highlights that an “unexpected summoning changes everything.” On the fourth episode of the season, we’re gonna have a swap to three tribes! The trailers don’t reveal the new divisions, but we can tell where six players are going from some scenes where they are wearing new buffs.
First, we see the reunion of Ori and Jelly, who formed an alliance before the first tribe division. We’re reminded again of Jelly’s crush, and it continues to appear rather one-sided, as we’ve only heard the swooning from Jelly’s perspective. Nonetheless, these two players are part of a larger four-person alliance with Devin and Sharonda. I expect more developments, since we’ve been regularly reminded this alliance exists.
Secondly, we see Mike and Maggie wearing new yellow buffs. Mike says, “I’m trying to turn on the charm,” and the shot cuts to Maggie cringing in a confessional. However, I think this sequence might have been conveniently edited together to play up the drama for the NTOS trailer. I guess it suggests Mike might have a tough time integrating and making new connections in the swapped tribe.
Finally, on the new red tribe, Eric and Kilby are bro-hugging and calling themselves “lover boys.” I’m not surprised by this interaction, as both have been portrayed as comic-relief characters so far. However, I predict that, though it seems they have a connection, they won’t get along perfectly in the end. It’s giving me “this town ain’t big enough for the two of us” vibes.
It’s tough to predict the next episode’s targets because it depends so much on the outcome of the tribe swap. Broadly, as mentioned, I can see the alliance of Sharonda, Devin, Jelly, and Ori coming together to dictate some upcoming votes. I can also see Carter getting targeted because his mutiny has made him enemies on the original Savu tribe. Lastly, I predict we’ll see Brady throw Maggie under the bus, revealing her Extra Vote advantage as revenge for voting against him at the last tribal council.
What do you think will happen in Episode 4? Leave your predictions in the comments!
