Christine and Gia break down Episode 1.

CBS

Each week, Christine Pallon and Gia Worthy will round up the previous week of Survivor 50 as they list their top moments in various important categories. This includes the most essential information, the stand-out castaways, and the key moments from the week.

Here, Christine and Gia break down all the action from the latest episode.

Top 3 Moments

THAT intro montage

Christine: After the lackluster season preview during the Survivor 49 finale, we opened this season with a truly epic montage of the show’s history, starting with a heavy focus on Borneo. Between this and the tribal council gong mentioned later in the episode, I really appreciated the well-deserved focus on the very first season, especially after we lost Jenna so early. This opening montage had so many fun and sometimes unexpected pulls (what do you MEAN Lisi Linares was on our TV screens in the year of our Lord 2026???) and brought the necessary gravitas to situate this landmark season as a historic accomplishment. And that match cut from Jenna on the plane to her on the barge? In the words of Rizgod: it was cinema.

A fight for supplies…and a surprise exile!

Christine: When I saw that the fight for supplies was back again, I was annoyed, but this was at least one of the better executions of it, largely thanks to the combination of players who went. Coach, Ozzy, and Q are a hilarious trio, and Coach and Ozzy instantly delivered with their heart-to-heart about South Pacific and Coach’s immediate betrayal of Ozzy in the challenge when he steals the key right out from under him. The Coach and Ozzy dynamic is clearly going to be a major storyline this season, and I am very much here for it.

Sadly, Coach gets sent back to camp, so they don’t get to have a sleepover on Exile together. The return of Exile Island was a welcome surprise, even if it wasn’t a major focus of the premiere. Ozzy and Q are faced with one last supply-related dilemma on Exile before heading back to their camps: whoever takes the supplies has to give their vote to the other player. Q sacrifices his vote for the supplies, giving Ozzy an extra vote but no supplies. Not a big deal for Q to lose his vote on a tribe of eight… until Colby promptly loses his to Savannah on the next journey and Kyle gets medevaced. Oops!

Colby Versus Savannah

Gia: The second Journey of the season comes down to two notorious challenge beasts—Old School versus New School, Colby Donaldson versus Savannah Louie. The pair is tasked with building a tower by alternating, placing one piece at a time. If the tower falls during their turn, they lose their vote for their first tribal council. Colby ends up being the one without a vote, while Savannah earns herself a Block-a-Vote advantage.

Tribe Breakdown

Cila

Gia: As the first tribe to see a tribal council, Cila is every bit the chaotic mess I was expecting them to be. Jenna Lewis hits the ground running, making a target of Cirie Fields, while Christian Hubicki finds a kindred spirit in Rick Devens. Ozzy and Cirie may be the players with the most history, but the real power lies with the trio of Emily, Rick, and Christian. Jenna makes a good case for splitting Ozzy and Cirie, but her unpredictability makes her a liability to her tribemates. In the end, Cila knows what to expect from Cirie, and the same can’t be said for Jenna.

Kalo

Gia: Things are going about as smooth-sailing as they could possibly be going for Kalo. Coach wins them their starting supplies and they win the first immunity challenge. Throw in Kyle’s medical evacuation, and they are now the only tribe not to lose a member thus far. They may have gotten less screentime in the premiere, but there’s no doubt that they’re the tribe to be on for the moment. Personally, I’m incredibly excited to see what the trio of Dee, Kamilla, and Tiffany has in store.

Vatu

Christine: An initial alliance quickly forms on Vatu between the old-school duo of Colby and Stephanie and the new-school duo of Genevieve and Kyle, with Rizo initially seeming on the outs. But following a tribe-bonding fashion show, Colby warms to the young Rizgod and establishes a sort of father-son relationship with him, placing him closer to the center of power on Vatu. Things are off to a quieter start for Angelina and Aubry, aside from a bizarre scene between Aubry and Genevieve that points to a brewing rivalry between the two of them. Despite this odd conversation, everything being set up on Vatu suggests Genieveve being in a power position, especially when she finds the tribe’s Billie Eilish Boomerang idol and sends it to Ozzy.

But despite their strong challenge performances as a tribe, things soon get messy on Vatu. Q gives up his vote to Ozzy on Exile, then Colby loses his to Savannah, and Kyle gets medevaced. Suddenly, the majority isn’t so much a majority anymore if they go to tribal. A tribe of eight is now a tribe of seven, with only five votes in play. The majority set up in this episode is essentially dead, and we’ll have to see next week how the power reshuffles.

Top 3 Contestants

Ozzy

Christine: It’s 2026, Ozzy is playing Survivor again, and I find myself thinking that he’s one of my favorite characters on the season so far. What planet am I on??? Now, I’m no Ozzy hater. I’m a proud South Pacific defender, and I’ve found him to be an enjoyable character more often than not in his past seasons. But going into 50, I was a little frustrated to have him back yet again over so many of the other one or two-time players we could’ve gotten instead. One episode in, though, and he’s already proving why he deserves a spot on the cast. This is a very different Ozzy; it’s Oscar, as he himself puts it. He’s still got the juice as far as challenges go, but he’s putting his social game at the forefront this season. His duo with Cirie is obviously one to watch, and he’s got an idol (that Genevieve is banking on him never playing) and an extra vote. Not a bad start for this old school legend!

Genevieve

Gia: The assassin of Survivor 47 is off to a strong start on her returnee season. She’s in a majority alliance with Stephenie, Colby, and Q (though two of their members lost their votes, not that Genevieve knows this), and she found the Vatu tribe’s idol. It turned out to be a boomerang idol, meaning that she had to gift it to a player on a separate tribe. She picked Ozzy, partially in hopes that if he is voted out, the idol will come back to her (another condition of the idol). While Q and Colby both losing their votes worries me for Genevieve’s sake, if anyone is able to navigate a sticky situation, it’s her.

Cirie

Gia: Oh, Cirie, I’ve missed you dearly on my TV screen. If the premiere episode proved anything, it’s that she’s just as dominant a force in the game as she ever was. The target on her back may be big, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t going to put up a fight for her place. While the premiere was certainly not the strongest showing that we have ever seen from her, she was still able to survive the first vote after being almost immediately targeted by Jenna. Cirie winning this season is still my ultimate hope for 50, but this episode alone proves why she’s a certified legend of the game.

Fallen Comrades

Jenna

Christine: Jenna came in playing hard, but you can’t really blame her. New Era moves fast, and she’s been out of the game the longest out of anyone on the cast. Jenna was right to see Cirie as a threat, and had she stayed out of the Cirie name-throwing until after the challenge loss, she could’ve survived here, and Cirie could’ve very well been the boot in the name of tribe strength. But Jenna’s role in targeting Cirie so early unfortunately set up a dynamic in which the vote wasn’t just about whether the tribe wanted to get rid of Cirie. The vote was also a referendum on whether or not Jenna’s tribe felt like they could trust her long-term, and unfortunately, her decision to come in so hot against Cirie positioned her as too much of a potential wildcard.

It’s disappointing that we didn’t get more time with Jenna since we’ve been waiting since 2004 to see her again, but her boot episode was at least a fun one with a strong focus on Borneo. Jenna is, and will always be, a Survivor icon.

Gia: First one in and the first one out… that’s how the saying goes, right? Unfortunately, Jenna couldn’t escape her notoriety and willingness to play hard and fast. While this strategy was certainly impactful in All-Stars when it spurred the Winners Witch Hunt, it did not have the same effect in the new era when targeting Cirie. I wish there were a way for her to stay longer, as it’s clear that she would’ve brought an unpredictable vibe to the game. Sadly, unpredictability is not a quality most look for in an ally, and Jenna was left out in the final plans. For lifelong fans like myself, this loss is immense.

Kyle

Christine: It’s never fun to lose a player to a serious injury, and it’s especially a bummer to lose someone on an all-star season in this way. Despite being a recent winner and ostensibly a huge threat, Kyle seemed to have a fantastic start on his tribe and got himself into a majority immediately. His duo with Genevieve would’ve been a force to be reckoned with, but his immunity challenge injury proved to be more than just an obstacle for him to overcome in the game. A torn Achilles tendon is no joke, so there was truly no choice but to medevac him based on the diagnostic tests. I have a feeling Kyle’s injury will be a big “what if” moment for this season, given how important he appeared to be in the Vatu tribe dynamics. I’m happy to see post-season that Kyle has made a full recovery, and hope we get a chance to see him one day in another all-star season!

Gia: Kyle is one of my favorite winners, and I was incredibly excited to see that he would be returning for 50. Even with the uphill battle of being the winner of the most recent season the contestants had watched, he maneuvered himself into an excellent position within the majority of Vatu. Sadly, he ruptured his Achilles tendon during the first immunity challenge, which led to his eventual medical evacuation after the first tribal council. He will be missed, but is now part of an elite group of winners that have played twice and never been voted out, joining Jenna Morasca and Michele Fitzgerald.
