The On Fire podcast is back for Survivor 49, with Survivor host Jeff Probst, producer Jeff Wolfe, and Survivor: Cambodia winner Jeremy Collins. In the latest episode, they discuss the most recent episode, including Kristina’s emotional moment, the failed rice negotiation, and more. Plus, Probst answers some fan questions.
Firstly, Kristina’s highly emotional scene is brought up. Probst comments that production is aware of certain circumstances regarding players’ personal lives, for instance, Kristina’s mom’s passing away. Still, players decide whether these instances are brought up on the show and how much. Jeremy added that he personally related to Kristina’s need to talk with her mom, as he had gone through the same after losing his parents.
Then, when talking about the failed rice negotiation, Wolf asks Probst if Survivor has come to a new crossroads where rice isn’t worth offering anymore. Probst responds, “Yeah, maybe. It’s an evolving situation.”
Probst goes on to say that he’s happy to see the game evolve, thanks to the players, and how far it has come from people being shocked in Survivor 41 about not having rice to this in Survivor 49. While players in Survivor 50 might have rice as it was up to a fan vote, Probst added that from Survivor 51 onwards, the rice matter will be revisited. Probst states, “It’s undecided.”
Afterwards, when talking about the latest Tribal Council, Probst told the other hosts he was extremely surprised by Rizo’s move to play a fake idol. He also disclosed that the new Survivor hidden immunity idol’s ‘basic design’ is intentional, so that players can create their own fake ones and shake up the game.
Lastly, Probst answers some fan questions. Probst gets asked what happens if a returning player ends up at the same beach they played on before, and whether there’s any advantage to them. Probst replies that this is something production takes into account. Still, since beaches do change due to weather and other factors from one season to another, there’s basically no advantage.
Also, the show’s host is asked whether this season’s individual immunity necklace has real shark teeth. Probst replies that it doesn’t, as the design is only moulded to appear that way.
