Each week Inside Survivor contributor Rob Brodeur will be collecting various Survivor-related statistics and information based on the latest episode of Survivor 49.

Tribe Swap

  • This is the first new era season to have a tribe swap that resulted in only two tribes.
    • It’s also the first season since Game Changers to swap from three tribes into two tribes.
      • Uli is the first tribe since Tavua in Game Changers to be dissolved/absorbed.
  • Uli is the first tribe in a three-tribe season to be dissolved/absorbed but not lose the first immunity challenge of the season.
    • Saboga in All-Stars
    • Matsing in Philippines
    • Luzon in Cagayan
    • Masaya in Worlds Apart
    • To Tang in Kaoh Rong
  • Uli is the second red tribe to be dissolved/absorbed after To Tang.
    • This is also the second time that red, yellow, and blue tribes swapped into yellow and blue tribes.
  • Steven is the only man from Hina to be on the new Kele tribe, and Savannah is the only woman from Uli to be on the new Hina tribe.
  • All three original Hina women were swapped to the new Kele tribe, and all three original Uli men were swapped to the new Hina tribe.
  • Jason, Matt, and Alex are the only players to swap to their original tribes.

Hidden Immunity Idol/Advantage

  • Rizo found the hidden immunity idol this episode.
    • He’s the only player who currently is in possession of an idol or advantage.
  • Since the inception of the “lost vote” this is the longest a season has gone where nobody lost a vote and everyone who attended tribal council cast a vote.

Immunity Challenge – “Stackie Robinson”

  • Variations of this challenge were used in Samoa, Kaoh Rong, and Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers.
    • Every time this challenge was used, a yellow tribe competed.
      • It has only been won by yellow and blue tribes.
      • In the previous three seasons it was used, the eventual winner was on one of the winning tribes.
  • This was the first time a tribal immunity challenge only had two tribes competing since episode 4 of Winners at War.
    • Both times, the blue tribe won.
      • Coincidentally, the blue tribes that won have names that are only one letter off from one another (Sele & Kele).
  • This is the first time Kele won a challenge this season, and the first time Hina lost a challenge.
    • Alex is the only player to win immunity for the first time this episode.
    • Sophi still hasn’t won a challenge.

Confessionals

  • Savannah had the highest number of confessionals this episode with 12.
  • MC, Sage, Sophie, Jason and Jawan had one confessional this episode.
    • The players on Kele with one confessional this episode were women, while the players on Hina with one confessional this episode were men.
  • Alex currently has the most confessionals with 31.
  • Sophie has the lowest confessional count with 4.
  • This is the first time since One World where every player had a confessional in episode 4.

Tribal Council

  • Matt was voted out 4-2-1.
    • He’s the first player to be voted out 4-2-1 since Michaela in Game Changers.
      • Both were voted out from yellow tribes.
  • He received a vote from every man on the new Hina tribe.
    • Savannah and Sophie voted for Jason.
    • All three of the men from the original Uli tribe voted for Matt this episode.
  • He’s the second player named “Matt” to place 14th on a season after Matt Bischoff in Caramoan.
  • Matt and Kishan (Survivor 47) are the only players to be voted out on day 8 in a new era season.
  • Every player to be eliminated so far is on the tribe they started on when they were eliminated.
    • Despite the tribe swap, Matt stayed on Hina, and every player before him was eliminated from Kele.
  • Matt is the first player from Hina to be voted out.
  • Both players that lost the journey challenge in episode 2 have been eliminated (Jake & Matt).
  • This was the first episode this season where Alex didn’t go to tribal council, the first time the Kele tribe didn’t attend tribal council, and the first time Sophi didn’t cast a vote for the player that went home.
  • Kristina, MC, Sage, Shannon, Sophie, and Steven haven’t yet attended tribal council.
  • Nate is the only player to be the oldest of his starting tribe and still be in the game.
    • Annie from Kele was voted out in episode 2, and Matt from Hina was voted out in episode 4

Episode Title

  • The episode title “Go Kick Rocks, Bro” was said by Nate when casting his vote at tribal council.
    • This is his second episode title this season.

Survivor Birthdays

  • This week’s episode aired on the following Survivor player’s birthday:
    • Brandon Hantz – South Pacific & Caramoan
    • Alec Merlino – David vs.Goliath
    • Mike Turner – Survivor 42
    • Shauhin Davari – Survivor 48
