Survivor host Jeff Probst, producer Jeff Wolfe, and Survivor 46 runner-up Charlie Davis meet on the On Fire podcast to discuss the first half of the Survivor 47 season finale. Probst reveals why the finale was split into two parts, something he will do in upcoming seasons, a tidbit for Season 50, and his thoughts on having a Final Two once again on the show.
When asked why the finale for season 47 was split, Probst responded it was due to CBS’ request to do fourteen episodes rather than the usual thirteen. After examining the storytelling possibilities of expanding the finale, production went ahead with this decision. “Typically, our finales are so full of content that we end up not having enough time to show all the stories we like to show, so actually, it really worked out,” the host said.
Later, Probst becomes candid about production’s thought process when picking which challenges to do for the upcoming season, for instance, the latest immunity challenge, which led to an epic showdown between Genevieve and Rachel. He reminisced of the last time it was done back in Survivor: Ghost Island where there was another showdown between Wendell and Dom.
Probst then says that production picks the challenges from a former season that led to memorable moments for future players to not only relive them but perhaps create unforgettable moments of their own. Probst adds, “You might even start to see me reference that more and more in future seasons by reminding players what I wish I’d done here.”
As for the upcoming season 50, Probst states production is studying the show’s history “through a different lens,” making this instance an example.
Lastly, and certainly not least, Probst comments on possibly having a final two once again. “It’s certainly possible,” Probst replies, but clarifies it won’t happen on Survivor 47.
