Next Time On Survivor – Episode 13

Steph Lauw makes her predictions for the next episode!

CBS

Welcome to Season 47’s Next Time On Survivor weekly feature on the Inside Survivor site! If you’re new around here, I’m Steph from sunny, tropical, humid Singapore. This is a tiny space where I give my best attempts at understanding preview trailers and make my predictions for the show’s next episodes.

We’re nearing the end of the season! The next episode is Part 1 of a 2-part finale, with two challenges and two tribal councils, as Jeff announces in the promo trailer. There are six players left in the game—Andy, Teeny, Genevieve, Sam, Rachel, and Sue.

The NTOS trailer begins with Teeny speaking to Genevieve, Sam, and Andy at night. It’s surprising that this conversation looks rather civil and collected, as Teeny has been depicted as someone who holds strong grudges against players who betray her trust. So far, they’ve written Genevieve and Sam off, and they’re definitely about to react similarly, as Andy just flipped on their alliance in the last tribal council.

I think Teeny’s keeping options open and trying to create more ways to secure a spot at the final tribal council and better their current position. In probably the same conversation, Teeny reveals “she has a Block A Vote,” exposing Rachel’s advantage to the other three players. I considered momentarily if Teeny was actually double-crossing Genevieve, Sam, and Andy. However, I find it more likely that they don’t feel as secure in their current alliance with Rachel and Sue and hope to join the other three.

Sue and Rachel both have advantages, which puts Teeny in a vulnerable spot unprotected. I think it’s a losing battle for Teeny though, as they won’t be a priority to either alliance. If they’re allowed to the finals, I feel it’s likely because others don’t see them as a threat, which might not bode well for them to get jury votes anyway. Overall, I don’t think Teeny is in a good position in this end game.

Unbeknownst to the four players, Rachel is eavesdropping on them from behind a nearby bush. In a confessional, she says, “I just listened to their entire conversation,” cementing, for me, how she’s the one to beat in the next episode and my winner pick at this point. Rachel managed to ingrain herself in a position where she can influence the votes to her favour and also has secrets up her sleeves, like the hidden immunity idol that no one else knows about. With her challenge abilities, these make her primed to finish strong these last few challenges and tribal councils.

In another significant portion of the promo trailers, we get a two shot of Genevieve and Rachel looking tentatively at each other, with Genevieve narrating, “This island isn’t big enough for the both of us.” You can almost feel the tension through the screen, preparing us for a showdown between the two.

Rachel and Genevieve have been targeting each other for the longest time — Genevieve wants Rachel out because she thinks she’s a sneaky and smart player, and Rachel wants Genevieve out as she correctly identified that Genevieve has been targeting her. Both players recognise each other as strategic threats, and I’m sure this will be the main story in the next episode — one has to get the other out before they can emerge with the win at the end.

Over the last few episodes, Genevieve has been playing great from her spot at the bottom of the tribe. Now, with what seems to be a three versus three standing in the final 6, she has more options to regain control. She may get lucky and make things fall in place to pull through the next vote. However, I think it’s way too difficult for her to sustain the next three tribal councils, and I don’t see her going on an immunity run. Ultimately, I think Rachel will be able to vote her out at the next opportunity with the other players all recognising that Genevieve needs to go for them to have a chance at winning.

What do you think will happen in part 1 of the finale? Leave your predictions in the comments!

One response to “Next Time On Survivor – Episode 13”

  1. This might be wishful thinking but do you think there is any chance that the night time chat in the beginning of the trailer takes place after the first tribal of the episode and Sue was already voted out?

I think the two getting cut are teeny and Geniveve. But I’m hoping for a Sue vote. I am worried about Sam but I am hoping that they don’t cut the one player that has any chance of beating Rachel cause then it will be to obvious and I hope the producers wouldn’t make it that obvious and that is why Sam has been getting a decent edit.
