Welcome to Season 43’s Next Time On Survivor feature on the Inside Survivor site! It’s a tiny space on the internet where I look at episode preview trailers, attempt to decipher them, and give my thoughts on what I think may happen in the upcoming episode.
This week’s NTOS preview opens with Cassidy telling Cody, “It’s time to start actually like getting out the big threats in this game.” My guess is that she’s referring to Sami who has been rather wishy-washy playing the middle. I feel like he’s someone Cody and Cassidy agree upon to take out. We haven’t seen an obvious bond between the three of them besides voting together in that majority seven which has disintegrated.
I wonder if or when Cassidy will see Karla as a threat. It’s obvious from our perspective that Karla is playing a good game — she has a couple of players prioritising aligning with her and the immunity idol bracelet from the Beware Advantage in the pre-merge, which has not been brought up since she attained it. Sure, it might not have been relevant to how the game has played out so far, but it might also mean that she has successfully evaded others’ suspicion. I think Cassidy will eventual try to get Karla out; however, she will want to secure a more concrete path with others before cutting off her last remaining Coco tribemate.
The next portion of the preview sets up a Noelle vs. Sami rivalry. Sami names Noelle as a possible vote, and Noelle, in a confessional, says, “Sami… I can’t freaking trust that guy.” Perhaps Noelle realised Sami spilled the decision to vote James out to Karla, someone she initially left out in her blindside plan.
Though things worked out her way, it’s very valid that she may feel distrust toward Sami. In this rivalry, I feel like Noelle will come up short as, contrasted with Sami, who seems to have more people like a Gabler and an Owen with limited options at his disposal, the people Noelle’s working with seem to be more transactional.
The previews also shed some light on Gabler, who reveals a possible plan to vote out Owen to Owen himself, and finally, a short confessional of Gabler considering how he has “options.” It seems like Gabler might be a little more active in the upcoming episode, but my prediction is that he won’t exactly be the decision-maker or the target.
I agree with Gabler’s assessment of his many options, but I don’t think he’s seen as a threat to anyone or someone with much weight to other players. I feel like he’ll be able to get by more votes while being seen as a loyal ally and uncomplicated since the Elie vote.
Finally, we see Cody and Jesse highlighted as a pair, with some shots of them plotting and others — Gabler and Karla — talking of ways to “deal with that.” I’m certain they will eventually get broken up, and Cody is my choice to go out first, mainly because Jesse is stacked with two immunity idols, and he has unfinished business enacting his plans to use them.
To sum up, I think the upcoming episode will include lots of talk about breaking up Jesse and Cody. However, I predict that the vote will flip to Sami or Karla instead. I’m leaning towards Sami as I can only see Owen and Gabler out of the eight remaining players fighting to keep him around. I think this vote will be one of getting out players perceived as formidable jury threats rather than breaking up pairs or groups working together.
