Welcome to Season 43’s Next Time On Survivor feature on the Inside Survivor site! It’s a tiny space on the internet where I look at episode preview trailers, attempt to decipher them, and give my thoughts on what I think may happen in the upcoming episode.
I’m off to a lucky start after predicting last week’s boot (though I admittedly hedged around and gave two names instead). This week’s preview trailer is constructed quite similar to the previous one — we get three short snippets of camp life divided up according to the three tribes.
The trailer begins on Coco, where the players are celebrating someone’s birthday — most likely James, who is wearing a leaf/flower crown, which is cute but, in my opinion, cannot top Cody’s fancy palm frond hat. Cassidy then says, “We’re building a community here… til we slit each others’ throats,” and we cut to a quick shot of Karla running into the jungle.
Ignoring the obvious splicing of clips from different instances together, this does seem like a rather generic summary of the game, especially for a tribe that hasn’t needed to vote anyone out — people getting along well in these early days, but of course setting up alliances and strategising under their united front.
Karla running into the jungle hints at an idol or advantage hunt. I’m still rooting for an all-girls alliance on Coco. And I think Karla is someone making it far because of the sensibly-portrayed confessionals and narration content we’ve gotten from here in the last two episodes.
The trailer scene of Vesi depicts the fallout between the Dwight and Jesse duo, which Jesse abandoned after Episode 2’s tribal council. Dwights says to Noelle, “I really trusted Jesse,” a stark contrast to an unbothered Jesse revealing, “I’ll sign the divorce papers; it’s okay!”
It may seem smug, but I feel that Jesse was still portrayed positively in the power position in the moments leading up to the vote, playing both sides well. He was not only trusted by Dwight, but he was the first person that Cody confided in regarding his Beware Advantage curveball. I certainly think Dwight and Noelle are at the bottom of Vesi, and my prediction is that they’ll try to get Jesse back on their side before approaching Cody or Nneka.
On Baka, we immediately see Sami telling Gabler that the latter’s bag was raided so that Jeanine and Elie could check the instructions and fine print of the immunity idol he earned in Episode 1. Gabler says, “My ally was snooping around,” before a quick cut to a shot of Elie. This is an interesting turn as the premiere episode focused quite a bit on Elie’s eventual decision to work with Gabler over Morriah.
The preview then shows Gabler telling Owen, “We gotta get her out,” which could refer to both Elie or Jeanine. Both of them underestimated the guys on Baka, assuming that they were not thinking about the game and strategising, when, in fact, they have actually discussed moving forward as a trio. The guys have the majority of the current Baka tribe of five, as well as Gabler’s immunity idol that’s valid for the last time in the next tribal council they attend. The girls are definitely underestimating Gabler, Sami, and Owen.
I actually am leaning towards Jeanine being the vote to go, as we haven’t seen that striking of relationships formed between her and other tribemates besides Elie. There was also this self-approving, bordering on over-confident, confessional from her in Episode 2 talking about how snooping in other players’ bags is fair game — this stuck out to me, and perhaps it’ll be a Chekhov’s gun situation that eventually sends her home. My prediction is that Owen will be the swing vote deciding whether to stick with the guys and vote out one of the girls or vote out Gabler, who may be a deadweight around camp and challenges.
All in all, similar to last week, based on the NTOS preview trailer scenes, I think Baka is going to tribal council because it received the most game strategy content. My prediction is Jeanine goes home rather than Elie, as the trailer hints towards. On Vesi, I think one of the three girls finds the Beware Advantage (perhaps Karla), and they work together to mitigate the risk and secure their vote and idol.

I love this column. You’ve gotten quite good at your predictions and I appreciate your rationale.
I’ve learned some NTOS-specific edgic by reading these, and I was also thinking that Baka will be the most likely tribe to eliminate someone based on their content this week.
You might be right about Jeanine, but I could also see Gabler get medevaced or quit or get voted out or even be in on it or something, due to the scenes we got last week about Gabler wearing down and it being hard for him to continue.
I do agree that I think Baka will go to tribal. But I think there is zero chance Owen is a swing vote. If they go to tribal Gabler is playing his idol. He has no reason not to. He’s not going to want to keep it as a souvenir. Unless he WANTS to go but doesn’t want to quit in which case everyone will vote for him.
