Each week, Gia and Garrett will round-up the week of Big Brother Canada 9 as they list their top 3-in-3 important categories. This includes the most essential information, the most stand-out houseguests, and the key moments from the week.
Here, Gia and Garrett break down all the action in week five and the fifth eviction of the season!
KEY INFO
1. HOH: Victoria
Gia: Another week, another win for Victoria. After tying with Tera with their guess for how many rocks fell during the competition, Victoria was able to win the tiebreaker. Victoria’s choice of nominations were… interesting, especially since Breydon and Austin were not coming after her in any way. Time will tell if this move won Victoria more allies or if she wasted a golden opportunity.
2. Noms: Austin and Breydon
Gia: Even with the HOH being anonymous this week, Victoria decided to continue last week’s trend of going after pairs. Austin & Breydon’s plan to fly under the radar until the jury didn’t pan out the way they planned, and Victoria felt they left her out to dry as soon as she no longer had power. It was only a matter of time before the Sunsetters got their way and Austin was voted out, but it is yet to be seen how Breydon’s game will change now that he’s lost his better half.
3. Veto: Rohan, Veto not used
Garrett: Rohan’s second Veto win in a row! Unfortunately, I think Rohan may have shot himself in the foot here by not using the Veto. Austin and Breydon were going to work with him as a priority, as opposed to the other side of the house that Rohan tried to placate. He couldn’t get nominated himself; trying to secure a trio going into the next week would probably have been to his benefit. Instead, I worry that he is simply being strung along.
STAND-OUT HOUSEGUESTS
1. Victoria
Gia: Our resident comp beast has done it yet again, securing her third win of the season… and we haven’t even reached jury yet! With the Invisible HOH at play, Victoria had to determine the best way to maneuver this week. While the Sunsetters were able to figure out that she was the one in the power position, others were convinced that it was Tychon calling the shots. Victoria has been on a roll, so let’s see if she can keep riding high.
2. Breydon
Gia: Breydon survived the block this week, but not without losing his closest ally and friend Austin. He was also a Have-Not, just to make everything worse for him. I think he had a slightly better take on house dynamics than Austin, but that’s not really saying much. Ironically, losing Austin could be the best thing for his game because now he’s a free agent up for grabs for all other sides of the house. Hopefully, he’s able to bounce back after the rough week he’s had.
3. Austin
Garrett: This season has been very unpredictable so far. Week to week, the game has developed in such a way that I thought Austin would fly under the radar much longer than she did. With Victoria constantly stirring the pot, it’s difficult to play a floater-esque game without getting called out. Austin brought a lot of heart and fun to the season and her dynamic duo with Breydon will be missed.
TOP MOMENTS
1. Invisible HOH
Garrett: What an interesting twist! I think, by and large, this was a very successful mechanism that I would not mind being implemented in future seasons. The game structure wasn’t changed much, but a new layer of chaos was draped over the house. It helped a lot that Victoria won the HOH; by her very nature, she is going to inject entertainment into the game. In a game that has people afraid of getting blood on their hands, being invisible helps a lot.
2. Have Nots
Gia: Who would’ve thought that Have Nots from an Invisible HOH would cause so much drama? Victoria decided to pick Austin, Breydon, Kiefer, and herself to be Have Nots this week to push the blame onto the Ty-Jed-Beth trio. Austin and Breydon were hopeful that this meant they were safe from being nominated, but they truly didn’t know who they were dealing with. The Invisible HOH (aka Victoria) “double-dipped” and nominated the inseparable pair for eviction too. It was a harsh move, but luckily for the nominees, they got a break (kind of) with our next highlight of the week.
3. Food Fight!
Garrett: Sometimes you watch Big Brother for intense strategy and dramatic fights. Other times you watch it for sheer ridiculousness and fun, and the food fight was exactly that. Beth, and the other Haves, were tasked with cooking an Italian dinner and making a big mess. They decided to take it to the next level and have a full-on food fight. Then, the Have Nots had to clean it up! Poor Austin. Ultimately though, the Have Nots got fed a lovely dinner by the Haves in a wholesome moment.
