Welcome back to Give Me Five! Each week, Brent Sullivan will look at the top five impactful moments from the latest episode that could influence the rest of the season.
At this point, I think that everyone has watched that crazy tribal council multiple times. I know I did, I wanted to see if I could catch everything that went down in the middle of all the madness. I’m also pretty sure that I could almost write this entire Give Me Five! and mention only the events of tribal. However, I will save those thoughts for point number 5 since there were a few other things to address.
1. David and Devens make up. After the events of last week, David seemed happy with how everything turned out, except for him and Devens voting differently, which caused a little bit of a problem what with them both having half an idol. They talked it out and decided that they still want the same things and got back on the same page (with Devens even using the idol on David at Tribal). Now, the way this season has been going lately, I can’t say that they will be lock-step for the duration, but at least in the short-term, it’s good to see them working together again. The positive of their partnership is that everyone also sees them as a pair. Not only are they a pair, but they are a pair that seem like less of a threat since there are larger groups of people also working together. With all the groupings that are currently out there, they may be stuck with each other anyway. Personally, I have enjoyed the on-screen duo and hope to see them continue this working relationship!
2. Extinction update. Not a whole lot to report here, but rather just a quick update on what is happening over on the Edge. First of all, is Eric really considering quitting? He doesn’t strike me as that type. I was hoping to see Aubry and Joe jump on the question and try to trick him into raising the white flag. At this point in the game, I would be completely shocked if anyone decides to walk away at a chance to get back. The other thing of note here is that Chris is once again providing food for the Extinction Island guests. I find it fascinating that not only is he still feeding the other people that he will have to compete against later, but that we also keep seeing it on our TVs. I wonder if it’s because there is literally nothing else to show or is he being set-up for something down the road? It’s day 23, so we are going to find out how his story ends soon.
3. Julie breaks down. A Survivor breakdown may be nothing more than someone having a good cry to let out some pent-up emotion, or it may be something more serious and signal someone is on the brink of walking away. It’s hard to tell how the person will bounce back. We ‘ve had some great players have breakdowns early in the game and then end up being one of the best players of the season. In this case, I don’t think that Julie is going to quit, but at the same time, she is definitely struggling. She doesn’t know how to handle everything now that she and Ron are at the bottom and was even a little freaked out when Gavin didn’t directly tell her that she was safe at the vote. I am curious to see how she handles the next few votes and her immediate takeaway from the Julia vote-out.
4. The silent supper. Another good name for this could have been “The calm before the storm.” I don’t think I have ever seen this many people left on a season all sitting around in complete silence. It was amazing to watch as most of them just sat there and did or said nothing. I wonder how long this really went on. For us to only see three minutes of it tells me that it went on for quite a while. The only thing that happened was Julia mouthing things to Kelley about the plan being the same. That is funny because Kelley didn’t seem to understand what Julia was talking about anyway. I think that the biggest impact of this was the Tribal Council that immediately followed, but I felt compelled to bring it up as something to look for in the next few episodes. Both David and Kelley as returning players knew something was up and could sense it during that silent meal.
5. Madness ensues. Now for the fun part. There was not one single moment or comment that happened during the wild and extra-long tribal council to place above the other, but instead, I would like to point out a handful of things that I noticed that could be impactful. Since this almost lasted half of the episode, it deserves the little extra attention this week:
a. First of all, Julia is gone (for now) so where does that leave Gavin and Victoria? They were working with her for the last two episodes. Also, where does that leave Aurora? She refused to vote her out and now she could be on the outs next.
b. Julie cried again (see point number 3 for more details) and a few of her fellow tribemates referred to her as crazy or losing her mind.
c. Devens took control of tribal. Devens picked up on what Julia and Aurora were saying, and it appears that he was indeed the pilot that flipped the game around. Devens is playing a great game, and now he is making moves happen at Tribal Council. This all makes him look good in the end.
d. Devens played the two-part idol on David. Finally, there is an idol out of the game. Does this mean that a new one will be hidden now?
e. Julia gets voted out. The Edge of Extinction is getting really crowded with Kama folk now. What sort of impact will that have if there is still a Kama member standing at the end?
There you go. What moments from this week’s episode do you think made an impact?

Good read as usual. You think that Aurora refused to vote for Julia. I just assumed that she was left out of the loop, and thought she was voting with the others.
Players confirmed after the episode that the vote was announced to everybody before voting, and everybody knew it was Julia, Aurora just didn’t want to vote for Julia.
