Welcome back to Give Me Five! Each week, Brent Sullivan will look at the top five impactful moments from the latest episode that could influence the rest of the season.
Another strong episode this week. This season started sort of slow, but it is really starting to ramp up over the past few weeks. There was quite a bit that happened, and I struggled (slightly) to figure out what points I wanted to mention here. Feel free to let me know if there were some other bigger moments, but these are the ones that I picked out as potentially impactful going forward:
1. Wardog barks at Devens. The biggest question in my mind heading into this latest episode was if the Lesu group was going to be able to pull together for a vote and could they bring Aurora on board. Both David and Kelley saw that as an option but knew that they had their work cut out to allow that to happen. Wardog also thought that was their only option, but when he tried to talk to Devens about it, he was shot down. Not only was Devens not on board, but he felt like Wardog was barking at him to make him play his way. Later, David tried to talk sense to Devens, but he wasn’t having it. The takeaways from this are that first, both Devens and David still have half of an idol each, since David didn’t trust him enough to give it back yet. I don’t think that will last too long, but for now, it is unusable. The other thing to note here is that after the disagreement with Wardog, Devens will be even harder to get over to the Lesu side again. Let’s see if his relationship with David can make a difference here.
2. Aubry sees the bigger picture. Here comes the weekly Extinction Island update. After everyone got a bottle with a note inside leading them to a prize, Aubry was the one that figured it out. She was able to see the “bigger picture” and find the advantage. The first thing she found was an extra vote (see number 3 below). But the other item was an advantage to help her in the next challenge to get back into the game. Not only did she get to try it out and practice, but she is the only one who knows about it since no one saw her grab the little package out of the rock wall next to the steps. I don’t know if they are going to have any more of these practice prizes, but until they do, this has to raise Aubry’s chances of winning that challenge.
3. A swing vote with an extra vote. Now, back to the extra vote that Aubry found. She decided to give it to Aurora which could be very interesting moving forward. Aurora knows that she was left out of the last vote and her ally went home… I mean onto Extinction! If she is still on the bottom moving forward, then this extra vote could do a lot of damage. Especially since there is an odd number of people left, that could lead to a major flip! Aurora appears to be actively working with the original Kama… at least she was until this vote, but she still voted with some of them. So, moving forward, I am not sure which way she will lean, but she has at least one tool in her bag now. Let’s see how she handles it.
4. Lauren passes out. This most likely will end up being nothing, and by the end of the challenge, she almost seemed to be back to normal. But at the same time, this isn’t the first time that we have seen Lauren struggle. She hasn’t been eating much and complains about being hungry a lot. At this point, I don’t see why anyone would want to vote her out since keeping someone in the game that is weak gives yourself a better shot at winning individual immunity. As I said, the only reason that I mention this is because they keep showing us how sick and hungry she is and when they keep focusing on things like that, it makes you wonder why? Maybe it was just to set-up for the challenge faint, but perhaps there is something more to it… I hope not for her sake, but let’s see how it goes.
5. Julia and Gavin’s decision. This is the decision that may impact the game the most. What the old Kamas did here was a huge move. Effectively, they turned on their own alliance of six when there were also six other people on the tribe that weren’t directly working with them. Since we technically don’t know where Aurora will land, Julia, Gavin, and Victoria (who also voted with them) may be on the outside looking in. Ron and Julie are going to feel betrayed and maybe even Devens since he appears to be fully in that court now. So where does this go from here? Well over the last couple of votes, nothing turned out how I thought it would, so I’m not sure. It is possible that all will be forgiven, and Kama will reunite and work together again, it is also possible that Devens sees the writing on the wall and returns home to David. The long-awaited Lesu reunion could happen and run the show till the end. No matter which decision is put up, it should be exciting to watch.
There you go. What moments from this week’s episode do you think made an impact?
